Dear All, I am pleased to announce the following upcoming event: Sub: Refresher Course in the subject of Library & Information Science Tata Institute of Social Sciences is conducting a 21 days Refresher Course in the subject of Library & Information Science. The theme is New Challenges in Information Management: Issues and Opportunities for Librarianship. It is scheduled to be held from 1st Sept 2003 to 21st Sept 2003. The objective of this Refresher Course is to make Librarians feel fresh and updated after the training is over and really contribute to the teaching learning process. The eligibility conditions are mentioned below. Application Form will be sent upon receipt of an e-mail request. Minimum UGC Requirement for participation in Refresher Courses The Minimum UGC Requirement for participation in Refresher Courses is as follows: Here Librarian means either a College Librarian or a University Assistant Librarian/Lecturer In Library & Information Science who are in the pay scale of Rs.8000-13, 500 and above The gap in two successive Refresher Courses should normally be two years and may be relaxed if the adequate number of participants are not available or it is essential for the Librarian to fulfill eligibility condition for his/her career advancement. The College should be included in the List of Colleges under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, even though they may not yet be fit under Section 12-13 of the same Act. If the College has not yet come within the purview of Section 2(f) but have been affiliated to a University for at least five years may also participate in the Refresher Course. CIEMCA/ COL is also an associte of this event. The deliberations of globally renowned experts - and subsequent discussions - during and after the conference, will help develop a road map for the digitization of archives, manuscripts, and libraries. In the May/June issue, the Science Watch feature article lists the top 10 journals according to citations per paper in 11 main fields (biology & biochemistry, chemistry, clinical medicine, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology & genetics, neuroscience & behavior, pharmacology, physics, plant & animal sciences, and space science). For these rankings, Science Watch turned to the Thomson ISI Web-based evaluation tool, Essential Science Indicators, which tracks publication and citation data over the last 10 years (with updates every two months). These findings are based on papers published and cited in journals indexed by Thomson ISI between January 1, 1992 and December 31, 2002. In addition to ranking specialty journals in each field, Essential Science Indicators also assigns individual papers in multidisciplinary journals to their respective fields. Of the multidisciplinary journals, Nature and Science enjoy particularly strong showings.
