*With apologies for cross-posting* Dear colleagues, Following our recent announcement about the Evidence Synthesis Skills Framework, we are pleased to introduce a new, free course developed alongside the framework by evidence synthesis experts of the Juno Evidence Alliance and the CABI Academy team. Primer on Evidence Synthesis is a self-led, online course providing a strong introduction to key terminology and important principles. It is aimed at those who are new to evidence synthesis or need a rapid initiation into the subject. View the course<https://evidence-synthesis-skills.cabi.org/courses/general-evidence-synthes…> Primer on Evidence Synthesis is designed to help people and organizations develop understanding and embed a common language around evidence synthesis, and helps to answer questions such as: * What is evidence synthesis and why is it important? * What different types of evidence syntheses are there? * What are reporting standards, and why are they important? * What makes a good evidence synthesis? Using agrifoods as a context, the content can be applied across multiple disciplines. FOLIO: The Open-Source Library Services Platform Revolutionizing Library Management
by Salman Haider 29 Nov '25

29 Nov '25

*FOLIO (Future of Libraries Is Open)* is a community-driven, open-source library services platform (LSP) that is transforming the library operations and technology landscape. Moving beyond the limitations of traditional, proprietary Integrated Library Systems (ILS), FOLIO offers a modern, flexible, and extensible solution built for the digital era. FOLIO is designed to support traditional library operations (like cataloging, circulation, and acquisitions) while enabling innovation through modular architecture. Unlike monolithic ILS systems, FOLIO is built as a collection of apps that work together through a shared platform. Developed collaboratively by libraries, vendors, and open-source developers—including major contributions from EBSCO and Index Data—FOLIO represents both a system and a community-driven ecosystem. In recent years, libraries have been navigating a rapidly evolving landscape shaped by digital transformation, growing user expectations, and the need for more flexible, open, and interoperable systems. Traditional integrated library systems (ILS) have struggled to keep pace with these demands. Enter FOLIO—an open-source Library Services Platform (LSP) that is redefining how libraries manage resources, workflows, and services. *Keywords:* FOLIO, Library Services Platform (LSP), Integrated Library System (ILS), Library Software, Future of Libraries Is Open, Open-Source Software (OSS), Library Management System *Source: https://www.librarianshipstudies.com/2025/11/folio-open-source-library-serv… <https://www.librarianshipstudies.com/2025/11/folio-open-source-library-serv…> * *Contents* - Key Features and Capabilities 1. Modular, App-Based Architecture 2. Open-Source and Community-Driven 3. Cloud-Native Infrastructure 4. Integrated Print and Electronic Resource Management 5. Powerful APIs for Integration 6. Customizable Workflows and Permissions - Benefits of Using FOLIO in Libraries 1. Freedom from Vendor Lock-In 2. Lower Long-Term Costs and Affordability 3. Future-Proof Technology 4. Rapid Innovation 5. Interoperability 6. User-Friendly Experience 7.
