National Portal for teachers

Respected Friends, On the occasion of Teachers day, Smt. Pratibha Patil, President of India has launched a unique portal for teachers. Azim Premji Foundation with the collaboration of Knowledge Commission has developed this portal. This is an initiative taken by any govt body to bring together the school teachers community on one platform, so that they can share their expertise and views. Currently this is available in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada . The initial phase of the portal envisages a space for teachers to express their ideas and share their thoughts on any subject that touches their professional lives. Phase one involves the uploading of material created by and for teachers in five languages (Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada). These will be short articles written by teachers on subjects of their choice including classroom practice, their experiences in school and ideas that they tried to experiment on. This Phase also envisages the beginnings of a district-wise directory of resource organizations working in education - this will help teachers gain access to material and people in their own geographic area. During the subsequent phases of the portal, teachers will continue to contribute their thoughts. Links will be provided to websites of other organizations, institutions and people to provide access for teachers. Resource material (articles, policy documents, manuals, tools and modules) by experts in the field will be made available on the portal either directly or through links. Teachers will be able to interact with each other and post questions and opinions. The number of languages offered by the portal will gradually increase until all Indian languages are covered. The Home Page will also feature a "Teacher of the Month" in recognition of special efforts. This portal will offer resources related to education perspectives (Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Economics), classroom practice (Principles of Pedagogy, Pedagogy of Language, Science, Mathematics, History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, EVS, Art, Music, Dance, Sports) including manuals, activities, modules, tools etc. Subject Content (Language, Science, Mathematics, History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, EVS, Art, Music, Dance, Sports) Stories, Songs, Games that teachers can use in class, reading resources (including links to other websites/portals/on line library), research information and specific case studies. Bhopal, Sept 4: After closure of the British Library, Swami Vivekanand Library has started the effort of renovation of other libraries. Keeping this purpose in mind the Library has taken decision to start training programme. This training programme started from Sep 15 has been prepared for students of library Science, Librarians of city. The Librarians working in city will be skilled in whole Library management by this training and will convert its Library to ultramodern Library. Students after getting practical experience from this training will get job in the best libraries of the country. In this training besides subjects related to Library Science training will be given of all modern Library concepts. The training will include Book selection, Book processing, Automation, Books arrangement and maintenance, Counter management, Event management, Customer Care, Marketing of Information product, Media Relations, and IT Management. First time training will be imparted on original software and original database used in Library. While most of the institute of the country imparts training on demo software and proxy database for saving from this risk. Team of four trainers under the leadership of Junior Manager of Library Laxmi Sharan Mishra will prepare trainees. These employees of British Library will trend professionals in the fields of their specialisation. This training will be of one month in which two sessions of 15-15 days will be held. In the beginning 15 days trainees will be given basic training and in later 15 days they will take on job training. After completing this training trainees will be provided certificate from Chairman of Swami Vivekanand Library. At the time of recruitment in this Library in future weightage will be given to persons who have got this training. Those desirous of taking training can send their application anytime in Library. 4 best applicants will be selected for every month. They will have to deposit fixed fee of this training. Indian Teacher's Day History History and origin of Teacher's Day in India is related to Dr. Radhakrishnan. India has been celebrating Teacher's Day on 5th of September since 1962. 5th of September is the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan, a philosopher and a teacher par excellence. Some of his students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday. In reply, Dr, Radhakrishnan said, "instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teacher's day". The request showed Dr.Radhakrishnan's love for the teaching profession. From then onwards, his birthday is observed as Teacher's Day in India. All this lead to Teachers Day origin in India.On this day, we gratefully remember the great educationist Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. His dream was that "Teachers should be the best minds in the country". Hence, Teachers' Day is very important for all our people, as the teachers act as foundation for creating responsible citizens.It is said that an average teacher teaches, a good teacher explains, a superior teacher illustrates, and a great teacher both learns and inspires students. We can never thank our teachers enough for their efforts. Teacher's Day is celebrated to show our acknowledgment and recognition of the hard work put in by our teachers towards our development. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan President of India Late Dr. S Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888, at Tiruttani, forty miles to the Northeast of Madras, in South India. His early years were spent in Tiruttani and Tirupati, both famous as pilgrim centers. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Arts from Madras University. In April 1909, he was appointed to the Department of Philosophy at the Madras Presidency College. From then onwards, he was engaged in the serious study of Indian philosophy and religion, and was a teacher of Philosophy.1918, Doctor Radha Krishnan was appointed Professor of Philosophy in the University of Mysore. Three years later, he was appointed to the most important philosophy chair in India, King George V Chair of Mental and Moral Science in the University of Calcutta. Dr. Radhakrishnan represented University of Calcutta at the Congress of the Universities of the British Empire in June 1926 and the International Congress of Philosophy at the Harvard University in September 1926.In 1929, Dr. Radhakrishnan was invited to take the post vacated by Principal J. Estin Carpenter in Manchester College, Oxford.From 1936-39, Dr. Radhakrishnan was the Spalding Professor of Eastern Religions and Ethics at Oxford University. In 1939, he was elected Fellow of the British Academy. From 1939-48, he was the Vice-Chancellor of the Banaras Hindu University. He later held offices that dealt with India's national and international affairs. He was the leader of the Indian delegation to UNESCO during 1946-52. He was the Ambassador of India to U.S.S.R. during 1949-52.He was the Vice-President of India from 1952-1962 and the President, General Conference of UNESCO from 1952-54. He held the office of the Chancellor, University of Delhi, from 1953-62. In 1962, Dr. Radhakrishnan became the President of India. And from May 1962 to May 1967, he served as the President of India.
