It runs a residential school for nearly 75 blind childrens at the Mutt Campus. For all the students of the Mutt, prayer and pravachana are daily practice. It is providing education to 45,000 students annually and has over 3000 employees. *Tumkur University * The newly established Tumkur University is marching towards the spread of higher education, with its vision 'Knowledge is Eternal'. The University blossomed in the era of globalization in which the economies of the world are being transformed from their original closed self sustaining structure to the globalized context, where they can expose themselves to the competitive world. This transition forced the arena of knowledge emphasizing itself to more of its application than of accumulation of facts. Tumkur University in order to cope with the present global environment, is attempting to the integrated and interdisciplinary approaches in the dissemination of knowledge with the aim of achieving overall human personality development. Tumkur is a historical centre possessing the rich cultural heritage which had valiant historical events of different kingdoms and humane social setup of uncomparable stature with many reigns and regions. Series of talks-'Chintana Manthana' and 'as it is' help to stimulate the students. *The K.S.C.L.A. * Karnataka State College Librarians Association was established in 1979 by Prof. T.S.Rubin was the first President of the K.S.C.L.A. with an objective to improve the service of the college Libraries, improve the status and service conditions of Library staff, co-operate actively to benefit mutually by the resources available to the libraries, strengthen the financial resources of the college Libraries and raise the professional standard of Library staff in the college Libraries. During the span of three decades, significant achievements have been made for the cause of Librarianship in Karnataka State to develop the college Libraries on par excellence. Help- CD/DVDs copy on server folders

Dear Sir/Madam, We have CD/DVDs in our Library collection and we want to make them accessible to our members(Engineers) from their desktop. Idea behind this was 1) To facilitate our members in referring these CDs/DVDs from their desk/work place , as they are working/located in different locations of Bosch (within Bangalore city & outside) and it is very difficult for them to visit to the library for referring these.2) CD/DVDs issued out are getting corrupted/spoilt in a short time. While planning this we foresee the following challenges, kindly let me know whether any one of you worked on this in your organization and successfully implemented , if yes kindly share your experience/learning. 1) User access/restriction: The CD/DVD we have are single user versions and we want to restrict the access to single user only ,but when we copy content on the server we lack control on number of users using them. How to over come this? are there any freeware available for this purpose. 2) Copying the content : There are some CD/DVDs which are partially copied on server folder. Are there any software available that solves the copying/mirroring problem. Hardware is available to support this service (other then CD Rom Server) ? 3) Copyright issues: 1) what all the things to be taken into consideration while implementing this. Discuss aspects which helps us in carrying out this work by being in compliance with copyright regulations(Indian copyright act context). Whether cost of loss of books is to be recovered from his salary by holding him personally responsible though Library is a team work. The details of the lecture are given below: Title: “Why are our readers not using Learning Objects?” Speaker: Prof. Srinivasa Ramani International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore Date: Friday, 4th June, 2010 Time: 6.00 PM (Coffee/Tea: 5.30 PM onwards) Venue: NCSI Seminar Hall, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore Dr. S. Venkadesan, Librarian, JRD Tata Memorial Library, IISc, will preside over the talk. Description about the Talk: The term “Learning Objects” had been inspired partly by the vision of object oriented programming. Learning content in various forms, bundled with code as necessary, and packaged in a standard form, were expected to be “objects” that could be reused in multiple contexts easily. However, many deviated from this vision over the course of time, and were willing to accept the definition of a Learning Object (LO) as a resource, usually digital and web-based, that can be used and re-used to support learning. The multimedia, hypertext and interactivity dimensions of such resources stimulated a lot of work. We can look at the LO movement as a part of the Open Educational Resources movement – one of the early drivers of the Web 2.0 phenomenon. Most authors who wished to promote the reuse of their creation were putting their LOs into the public domain. The increasing use of web based material for learning in a variety of contexts and the enormous growth of content on the Web makes LOs an important topic for the attention of everyone in the professions associated with information delivery. Visionaries in the field recognized the importance of metadata and standardization, and for a time, discussion of metadata standards for LO’s was a necessary component of conferences. We will look at what happened to the promise of easy and systematic search for LOs. Most visions do not predict the future any better than weather forecasts, but they do enable concerted attacks to be mounted on important problems. Some of the current visions deal with two insights: a) Locating and using content on the Web would be a lot easier and satisfactory if the systems used have relevant information about the user and personalize their efforts to help the user in the best possible manner. b) The forms of education in wide use need to be changed dramatically. The future school will not resemble the schools we all went to. The Web will change all that. All of us concerned with the creation, management and delivery of information content need to give attention to information designed to promote serious learning. The fact that we are all continuing to learn, much after our leaving college, is an indication relevant to the future of education.
