Dear professional Collegues, Information available on Internet in public domain as well as through different subscription based databases provided by various hosts and aggregators plays a very important role in teaching, learning and research. For maximum utilization of these resources in academics the need of the hour is to make the users of information competent enough for retrieving precise and relevant information as per their needs. In this context the libraries and information centers has a very important role to play. With a view to educate the users and enhance their capabilities about electronic resources and make them competent for retrieving precise and relevant information through Internet, DULS has started regular Information Literacy Programme since, 2006. In continuation to its programs and activities DULS is organizing a two-days Training The Trainers: Workshop on Information Literacy & Competency for University and College Library Professionals. The goal is to train the library and information professionals for onward transmission of the skills to end users. Considering the inconvenience of visiting a library or buying a book from a book stall, Sahitya Bharathi Book Shop, Chikkadpally has launched its ‘Book on wheels', a mobile book stall offering wide variety of books in the city. Carrying novels, short stories books, biographies, devotional books etc, the van will travel in different residential colonies and offer books for sale. Readers can pick their books and even avail ten per cent discount on every purchase, says D. Samba Siva Rao of Sahitya Bharathi Book Shop. The objective is to inculcate book reading among city dwellers, besides promoting Telugu literature. Lot of effort has gone into selecting books to be offered through this van. It carries about 500 books and some of them are rare books, he says. “Apart from selecting books, efforts were put in for designing the van. Limca Book of Records winner K. Sudhakar, who is known for designing and making cars with innovative ideas has designed the van,” says Mr. Rao. Disparity and discrimination due to CRC Report in Govt Libraries

Dear moderator plz post this matter on the forum for discussion. DISCRIMINATION DUE TO OM 19(1)/IC/86 DATED 24.07.90 OF DEPTT OF EXPENDITURE,M/o FINANCE,GOI It is a matter of great concern for all library professionals, except the head/incharge of the library, who are employed with central govt organisation/ministries and wherein Chattopadhyaya Review Committee Report(CRC Report) has been implemented.There is great disparity and discrimination in the OM 19(1)/IC/86 dated 24.07.1990 of Deptt of Expenditure,GoI.As per different provisions as laid down in this OM whenever library is considered to be reviewed as per 18 variables suggested in the said OM the person who enjoyed the benefit of upgradation is only the head/incharge of the library.Rest of library staff ,whatever their qualification and experience is, not eligible or we can say not entitled and therefore not being considered for upgradation,etc.Its very sorrow affairs and a large numbers of library professionals are being suffered.Similarly it is difficult to imagine that not a single library association/professionals with repute has done anything in this regard. It has become fashion to talk about different issues like digitization, OSS,IR,OA, and many more but I never seen anybody discussing or raising the issues of library professionals governed with CRC Report.At one end they are not getting any promotion,excet ACP/MACP/ on the other their scale is getting down with every Pay Commission.Admin asstt in govt is getting 4600 GP being simple graduate while Library Inf Asstt only 4200 though possessess additional qualification. I hope and do request that professionals who are in commanding position in this field must address this issues at relevant platform only then this severe problem can be sorted out. I have read the article as well as the comment. I have also been trained in NewGenLib at NISCAIR. Mr. Giri was the resource person. He always told that there were certain difficulties, he did not overcome by the time and need more experimentation and discussion at NewGenlib Forum. As he told that Mr Em Siddhartha of NewGenLib is very positively responsive to solve problems, one is advised to put the difficulties at NewGenlib Forum. Certain problems he told in the class, has been solved by himself later on. I have implemented NewGenlib in our library and he provided help with out taking a single penny from us. In OSS, findinig a problem in the software and searching for its solution is very lively and continuous process. Also, with the coming of latest version, some earlier problems has already been removed. Thus, I don't find any discrepancies in article at all. About the intention of the author in the article, It is nothing but the process of implementation of OSS in Library Regards Rajendra Singh Dy.
