19 Oct '23

From: Katrine Sundsbø <katrine(a)doaj.or Date: Wed, Oct 18, 2023 at 4:51 AM Hello everyone, *** Apologies for crossposting, but feel free to celebrate several times! *** We're delighted to announce that we've reached 20,000 journals at DOAJ! Please join us in celebrating with a cup of tea, coffee or perhaps a little piece of chocolate :) We're so incredibly grateful to our community of supporters, volunteers, ambassadors, librarians, researchers and of course all those who apply to get their journal indexed. To celebrate both 20,000 journals and 20 years, we've launched a fundraising campaign, where anyone can donate any amount to DOAJ. We've done this because we know many who do want to support us cannot afford the list price, or perhaps want to support as an individual. We're extremely grateful for any contribution on our way to reaching our goal of £20,000! Thank you all for your attention, and I hope you have a wonderful day and rest of the week! Kind regards, Kat Katrine Sundsbø Community Manager DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) https://doaj.org Open, global and trusted since 2003

*Documentation Research & Training Centre (DRTC)* *Indian* *Statistical* *Institute, Bangalore Centre* 8th Mile, Mysore Road, RVCE Post Bangalore, 560 059 *Seminar-06* *(2022-2024)* *Title* *- **The Art and Science of Organizing: Unveiling the Power of Taxonomy* *Coordinator: **Dr.* *Biswanath Dutta* *Speaker: **Subhayan Chakraborty* *Abstract* Organizing our environment is the ultimate life strategy – transforming disorder into order, making each day effortless. It involves the skills and knowledge of grouping similar items together and maintaining order by allocating distinct spaces for diverse elements. Taxonomy aids in organizing information in a modern approach. From one perspective, the taxonomy task involving entities' naming and arrangement can be seen as an age-old craft. Alternatively, it can be viewed as a distinctly contemporary undertaking, evolving with increased complexity as organizations and human societies embrace higher information intensity. This seminar explores four basic questions regarding Taxonomy, i.e., What is Taxonomy as a whole, why do we need Taxonomies, how it can be implemented in modern information organization and retrieval, and who can potentially play roles as Taxonomists? *Date: **12/10/2023 (Thursday)* *Time:* *2 p.m.* *Venue:* *DR**TC* *Class Room (G-16), ISI Bangalore* *All are cordially invited* -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

DRTC Student Seminar 05
by amit tiwari 03 Oct '23

03 Oct '23

Dear All, The fifth seminar in the DRTC student seminar series 2023 will be held on October 5th, 2023. The seminar title is *"Precision and Power: Semantic Search in Modern Information Retrieval."* The seminar will be presented by Mr. Shubham Mishra (MSLIS (2022-24)). The additional information and abstract are as follows: *DRTC Student Seminar 05* *Title:* Precision and Power: Semantic Search in Modern Information Retrieval *Abstract* The field of LIS is undergoing a significant transformation with the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). Traditional keyword-based search techniques are giving way to more advanced and intuitive approaches, with semantic search emerging as a frontrunner. Semantic search is a paradigm shift from the rigid and often imprecise keyword-based searches of the past. It leverages the power of NLP to understand the context, intent, and meaning behind user queries, enabling a more natural and conversational interaction with information resources. Ontology and knowledge graphs play a pivotal role by organizing and connecting information in a structured and meaningful manner. The seminar delves into the mechanics of semantic search, showcasing how it enhances the accuracy and relevance of search results while reducing the cognitive load on users. Coordinator: Dr. Biswanath Dutta Speaker: Shubham Mishra Date: 05.10.2023 (Thursday) Time: 14:00 hrs. Venue: DRTC Class Room, (Room No-G-16), Documentation Research & Training Centre (DRTC), Indian Statistical Institute, 8th Mile, Mysore Road, RVCE Post, Bangalore, 560059 All are cordially invited. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
