Today The Library and Information Centre of an internationally acclaimed premier institute, National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) (an Institute of National Importance) is one of the finest libraries in the country. The faculty, doctors, scientists and research scholars and students regularly publish their research papers in the internationally reputed quality peer reviewed journals. The library has always stood as a best information access support to them in their endeavor to highly specialized activities like patient care, health education and research. Specialists and professionals from all across the country visit this library to utilize the specialized rare collection of this library and other library services. In the early 1980s highly acclaimed Professionals like Dr. M Ishwara Bhat, and later DR. H. S. Siddamallaiah headed and heralded this great Library to the current cutting edge e-end library. Many dedicated and committed library professionals have put in their fine tuned services and skills, and all these resulted in putting this National Neuroscience Information centre on a global map par excellence. Just last year only Dr. H.S.Siddamallaiah, Principal Library and Information Officer of this library retired on 31 Jul 2013 (Currently he is: Visiting Professor, Faculty of Informatics, Mahasarakham University, Thailand). And this year, now, again one of the best rendered library professionals of this library, of a very long standing, Dr. B.R. Bhanumathi Yadav, Senior Librarian is going to retire on 30 Apr 2014. It is a well noted fact among the close senior Library Science Professionals that Bhanumathi is admired for her 'pleasant adamant stance' as always among the friend circles. It is an open fact that literally Bhanumathi has been groomed and developed in close proximity with a high stature professional personality like Dr. Siddamallaiah, for over many years. Bhanumathi joined NIMHANS Library as Library Assistant in the year 1981. Soon in 1982 she became Librarian and later in 1999 she has been elevated to Senior Librarian position. Before joining the NIMHANS Library, she has had a 5 years professional work experience for having worked at Bangalore University library, and DRTC. She has been awarded Ph.D.Degree in the year 2005 from Karnatak University, Dharwad. Her Guide and Mentor is Dr. C. R. Karisiddappa, Former Chairman and Professor of the Department of Library and Information Science, (and the Dean, Social Sciences), Karnataka University, Dharwad. Her thesis title: Design and Development of Integrated Information System and Services for Women Health: An Exploratory Community Based Study. Dr. Bhanumathi has over 7 scientific papers published to her credit. She has formally and informally Guided over 5 M. Phil. scholars from Annamalai Univeristy and other universities from Andra Pradesh. She has been always a best inspiration and motivating force to the young and upcoming budding Library Science students and professionals. She has rendered her best user-friendly information services in the library, which helped her win many hearts of the students and faculty members of this reputed institute of National Importance - NIMHANS. World Book Day Celebrations at KV Kanjikode

Kendriya Vidyalaya Kanjikode is celebrating World Book and Copyright Day from 21-26 April 2014 with various programmes. Mr. Johnson Mathew, Assistant Commissioner, KVS RO Ernakulam gave away various prizes and awards to the library prize winners of the previous session. * Outstanding Reader of the Year : A Cash Prize of Rs. 1000/- each to ten Best Readers, instituted by Mr. Kiran Ramachandran, an alumni of our Vidyalaya to motivate reading habit. The students were selected based on the library points, Book Lovers Programme for School participation, Readers' Club points and creative writing skills. * Best Library User (School) certificates and gift coupons: To 12 students based on the Library Points secured in the previous academic session * Class of Readers Award : To the class that secures a minimum 1000 library points in the session. * Best Library User (Class): The students who secure the maximum library points in the session in their class * Reading Achievement Certificates: To the students who secure a minimum of 50 library points in the session. This year 60 students received the certificate. These prizes are given annually during World Book Day and the it was heartening to see that the number of prize winners almost doubles every year. However being a new protocol brings with it a lot of challenges and need for enhanced skill development. ERNET India- Indian National Research & Education Network (NREN) had successfully transited to IPv6 about half a decade ago and has been empanelled by DoT and appointed nodal agency by DeitY for IPv6 transition in the government - are organising an IPv6 Workshop on 2nd May 2014 at IIT Chennai. The workshop intends to enrich participants with what the other organisations are doing on this front, how they should proceed and the methodologies they should adapt in the form of presentations by eminent panelists. The workshop would be followed by an exposure to the real world of IPv6 in the form of Hands-on training for those interested as well as in the some live demos of the opportunities that IPv6 brings to the civilization. 'BOOKS ARE A BRIDGE BETWEEN GENERATIONS'(WORLD BOOK DAY OCCASION) Kannada litterateurs stressed on the importance of books and cultivating the habit of reading on the occasion of 'World Book Day' on Wednesday. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, writer Narahalli Balasubramanya said "We should ensure children emulate great minds if we want them to be responsible citizens. This is possible only if we make them read good books. Today, we are increasingly finding ourselves in the company of corrupt people. It is through books that we can interact with great literary figures such as Bendre and Kuvempu." The event was jointly organised by Karnataka Publishers Association, Kendra Sahitya Akademi, Karnataka Lekhakiyara Sangha and Indian Institute of World Culture. Balasubramanya maintained that the Kendra Sahitya Academy sold books at affordable rates and also gave a funding of Rs 400 crore to the book publishers, annually. "But not many people are aware of books entering market and the works don't reach people," he added. A series of Kannada works written by authors were released on the occasion. Writer Dr Siddalingaiah who released the books said "Books are bridges between our minds and our ancestors' minds. Every home should have a small library." 'Pustaka Bhagya' "The State government has introduced Anna Bhagya, Ksheera Bhagya and other schemes. Similarly, they should also implement Pustaka Bhagya," said M V Nagaraj Rao of Shrungara Prakashana. Technical writer in Kannada U B Pavanaja maintained that in Kannada Wikipedia there was dearth of information on Kannada literary works. "There is enough information about English works but not on Kannada novels and literary publications. The Kannada publishers should strive to feed information and synopsis of each work into the Kannada wikipedia," he added. Public Library Department celebrated the occasion by holding a book exhibition and essay competition for children at City Central Library premises on Wednesday. Ministerial representatives from 12 countries (Argentina, Brazil, France, Ghana, Germany, India, Indonesia, South Africa, South Korea, Tunisia, Turkey and United States of America) along with 12 members of the multi-stakeholder international community participating in the meeting will primarily focus on: crafting internet governance principles and proposing a roadmap for further evolution of internet governance ecosystem.
