Earlier Mr A Rajender met sri Ramana Chary requesting him to help in development and effective management of libraries both public and academic.Mr Rajender also met Mr Goud, Parliamentary secretary and impressed upon him to do something for the benefit of the libraries on 11 Feb President along with Mr Rajender Alvala Raj who works for 6 TV met Prof Haragopal, who is associated with the committee related to reforms in education in the State and also reforms in Telangana Public Service commission and recruitment process. we also met sri Allam Narayana, Chairman, Telangana Press Academy.Both of them were briefed about the status of public and academic libraries, we requested them to help in development and retaining the glory of public libraries, we discussed with them about recruitment, problem of cess that is not released to ZGS for book purchase, present conditions of the buildings and book collection. Requested them to use good offices to recruit both public library staff and also academic library staff, we requested them to help public libraries development and services by nominating professionals, and educated people rather than politicians to ZGS and Telangana Granthalaya Parishad.They gave patient hearing and responded positively. National Seminar on Transforming UNIVERSITY Libraries: JNU Leading the way Date: January 28, 2015 at 10:00 A.M Venue: Auditorium-I, Convention Centre, JNU Organized by Central Library Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi Supported by EBSCO Concept Note: The role of university library systems over a decade has undergone varied diverse changes. The university libraries have had to compete with the “world wide web” and IT savvy users to get the eyeball attention. These libraries, are not only started opening 24X7 physically but also making the available, all resources, at a touch of the key 24x7. The message has been loud and clear to the library leaders that transformation of university libraries is essential to deliver a fast, simple and systematic services through various tools to integrate all of the library’s’ diverse resources In the University Library Systems, JNU is leading the way with modern, advanced services available round the clock not in campus but anywhere, anytime through the virtual world. The National Seminar intends to showcase and launch the services and tools recently initiated in the university library as a role model. In this series it includes New JNU Library website; Web Scale Discovery Solution; Athens Cloud based Access Gateway and Launch of Website of ETD 2015: 18th International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertations. i. The new JNU Library website has been designed on a open source and with attractive appearance, updated content, more functionality and usability with modern library world services integration. ii. The JNU Library through its dynamic design of “single search box” of Discovery Services intends to bring patrons back, to the library, as their first point of call for their information needs. The traditional tools provided by the library to search various library databases, catalogues and other electronic resources, all of which are in different silos and have totally uncommon characteristics leading to underutilized usage of library resources, among other challenges. Similarly, the Athens cloud solution adopted by JNU will ensure that all the patrons of JNU can now have access to virtually every subscribed information resource on their finger tips from the comfort of their homes or any other part of the world. iii. JNU library will be organising ETD 2015: 18th International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertations, which is an international symposium and a platform for gathering of current and future researchers and practitioners in the area of Electronic Theses and Dissertations. This event will be held in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Campus, New Delhi, India during 4th - 6th November 2015 with a theme “Evolving Genre of ETDs for Knowledge Discovery”. ABOUT TOPIC: Historically Big data has been around for several decades - in fact, in some versions it predates even the Internet and the Web. But ‘Big Data’ has become, along with ‘Analytics’ the all ubiquitous buzzwords only in the more recent past. Also, like the legendary story of the elephant and the blind men, there are several versions of what exactly they are, of their usefulness and application. So how do we separate out the facts from fiction? This talk looks at the concepts and key terms associated with ‘Big Data' and 'Analytics’, the technologies that have risen to deal with them and some examples of practical applications in business and industry. Finally, the talk considers Big Data and Analytics from the perspective of Library and Information Science, understanding some of the experiments carried out and future areas of possible applications. It also briefly covers if the skills of library and information professional can be relevant in this new domain. After all, loosely speaking, are we not the managers of organized data (books/information/knowledge) in the pre big-data world? ABOUT SPEAKER: Suvarsha Minj works as Knowledge Curator in a start-up Kaybus Inc. - a Enterprise SaaS based Knowledge Automation Company. The company works transforming enterprise information into knowledge by personalizing it to individual needs in context using Big Data technologies. In the past, she has worked on several projects at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. She was part of the SALIS (Software and Licensing Information System) at ERNET and the project SJPI (Scientific Journal Publishing in India) using Open Journal Systems (OJS) at NCSI. More recently, she has led in porting the 100-year-old journal, The Journal of the Indian Institute of Science into OJS, and digitize and make available on an Archive Management System all the publications - since its inception in 1974 - of the Center for Sustainable Technologies, IISc. She has published some national and international papers based on her work. Five IATUL travel grants will be awarded to first-time attendees of this conference. Applications are encouraged from librarians at any institution that is an IATUL member or would qualify for IATUL membership (i.e., the institution has a focus or substantial programme in the sciences and/or engineering). When applying for a Travel Grant, please remember that English is the official language of the organization and its annual conference. But ‘Big Data’ has become, along with ‘Analytics’ the all ubiquitous buzzwords only in the more recent past. Also, like the legendary story of the elephant and the blind men, there are several versions of what exactly they are, of their usefulness and application. So how do we separate out the facts from fiction? This talk looks at the concepts and key terms associated with ‘Big Data' and 'Analytics’, the technologies that have risen to deal with them and some examples of practical applications in business and industry. Finally, the talk considers Big Data and Analytics from the perspective of Library and Information Science, understanding some of the experiments carried out and future areas of possible applications. It also briefly covers if the skills of library and information professional can be relevant in this new domain. After all, loosely speaking, are we not the managers of organized data (books/information/knowledge) in the per big-data world? Profile: Suvarsha Minj works as Knowledge Curator in a start-up Kaybus Inc. - a Enterprise SaaS based Knowledge Automation Company. The company works transforming enterprise information into knowledge by personalizing it to individual needs in context using Big Data technologies. In the past, she has worked on several projects at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. She was part of the SALIS (Software and Licensing Information System) at ERNET and the project SJPI (Scientific Journal Publishing in India) using Open Journal Systems (OJS) at NCSI. More recently, she has led in porting the 100-year-old journal, The Journal of the Indian Institute of Science into OJS, and digitize and make available on an Archive Management System all the publications - since it’s inception in 1974 - of the Center for Sustainable Technologies, IISc. She has published some national and international papers based on her work. She has also worked in the corporate sector in several organisations like Yahoo, Hewlett Packard (HP) and General Electric (GE) in various capacities and is an alumnus of NCSI-Net.
