Call for papers for Special Issue of Annals of Library and Information Studies Special Issue Theme: LIBRARY DISCOVERY SYSTEMS Guest Editor: Dr. Parthasarathy Mukhopadhyay, Associate Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kalyani Submission deadline: 31 August 2016 Introduction to theme: The socio-technical environment within which libraries of developing countries operate is changing more rapidly than libraries are changing to meet it. The tools and technologies that facilitate the discovery of diversified resources and access to the globally distributed resources for a wide range of users are of utmost importance for libraries of any type or size. These tools are gaining maturity and popularity rapidly across the world and discussed under the generic term resource discovery systems. This special issue of Annals of Library and Information Studies aims to deliberate issues pertaining to technologies, methodologies, products, metadata models, linking environments and user interfaces in the context of library based resource discovery systems. Facets: Original contributions are invited from researchers and practitioners including but not limited to the following facets - 1. General aspects of resource discovery systems - what, why, how, tools, selection of tools, comparison of tools etc); 2. Architecture and standards related to resource discovery systems including library discovery as integrated search interface; 3. Study/feature analysis of available tools (both open source and close source including associated standards) and Discovery service providers; 4. Today DOAJ will remove approximately 3300 journals for failure to submit a valid reapplication before the communicated deadline; a deadline which was extended twice to allow more time for reapplications. Upcoming change in Koha ILS's version numbering schema

Dear all, Many among you here are active Koha users. While some of you may be aware that Koha's versioning number scheme is changing within the next few days, many are not yet aware of this change. From the 3.x versioning that we have used for the last 3+ years, we are changing over to a YY.MM style version (ala Ubuntu). The current stable release is 3.22.6 and the next stable release which is scheduled for release in a few days will be 16.05. After graduation he had taken up a job in ITI, Chennai, where he was involved in developing “High Speed, Magnetically Suspended Rotor for Uranium Enriching” for DRDL, Hyderabad, which is being used by Defence even now for their Nuclear project.In 1986, he joined the Signal & Telecom Department of Indian Railways through UPSC / Indian Engineering Services examination. Since then he has been working in various capacities in Railways at different places spanning 9 states. In all his tenures, Mr. Baskaran has been successful in all his postings and made a mark in major system improvement. This presentation includes examples of Research Support Service activities at FGCU library and includes several examples of collaboration between liaison librarians, extended faculty and university administration. The woman got a book issued in December 1948 and visited the library to return the book only in 2016. Guess how much fine she should have paid? Well, that is why fiction is always better than reality. As a kid, many of us have had one special book that makes us feel home no matter how many times we read it. Perhaps, A.W. Reed's "Myths and Legends of Maoriland" was that book for a lady who came to return this book to a library after 68 years. A 70-year-old woman visited the Epsom Community Library in Auckland, New Zealand and she came with a 'confession'. She had borrowed the book from the library when she was the patron of the library as a kid but then she moved out of Auckland and 'accidentally' took the book with her. After nearly 68 years, while was visiting her family in Auckland she thought of finally returning the book. The woman told the library staff that she thought of returning the book many times but did not get the opportunity. Even after so many years, the book was in 'excellent well-read condition', Epsom Community Library wrote in a Facebook post. The woman told the library staff that she took Myths and Legends of Maoriland as a child and now is a grandmother herself. She said she had read the book a number of times over the years. But since the book was issued on 17 December, 1948 and should have been returned in a week's time, she actually has a heavy fine to be paid. According to the terms of the library, the woman should be fined 102.50 pounds for the 24,604 days it was overdue that too if not adjusted with the inflation. But the Epsom Library has decided not to fine her and were more than happy to get the book back and hear the story.
