Dear Friends, This is my personal experience during conversation with professionals regarding library automation and data migration. Many of us are struggling with data migration and consider this as a big challenge. Friends, I wish to convince you that data migration is not as difficult as we are making it. It is very simple process except few cases where we are not having the provision of exporting data in excel or Marc. Whatever system you are working, it does not matter. If you wish to switch over to any other ILMS then only you have to pull your data either in excel or Marc format or ISO format (if possible) then purify your data and make it compatible with your chosen software. Here are few videos which may help you to understand the process of data migration. Please have a blank data sheet with few data in it and practice 2-3 times and you will become master in it. It was pleasure to spent one our with him through his channel. He has explained a few areas of the library particularly information on library automation. Many professionals have connected and asked questions, doubts and also given feedbacks on the session through comments. We are glad to inform you that the Central Library, IIT Bombay is organizing one day workshop on *'Innovative Information Literacy: active learning and engaging pedagogies’ *on 8th March, 2019(Friday). Despite user’s’ wide use of Google Scholar and search engines, in order to succeed in developing critical thinking skills such as analysis and evaluation, not only in school/university but in the workplace our users need to learn about digital literacies. IL training is necessary for Librarians so as to improve library users abilities to transfer more effectively into professional work environments to become lifelong learners and get meaningful professional work, students need not only to learn IL, but also retain critical thinking skills (IL). Studies show that students retain critical thinking skills most effectively when engaging in active learning exercises. This workshop will highlight effective ways librarians can engage students in information literacy training through interactive and innovative activities. *About the Workshop Resource Persons: * *1. Aditi Gupta * Aditi Gupta is the Learning & Research Librarian: Engineering & Science, Mearns Centre for Learning - McPherson Library and she has worked in libraries for the past 12 years. She is the recipient of the ALA Diversity Research Grant for her study titled “Exploring library perceptions, reading habits and library usage of the South Asian population in BC”. She has served as the Chair for the CLA Research & Development Grants Jury and is a current member of the American Library Association, American College of Research Libraries and the American Society of Engineering Education – Engineering Libraries Division. Aditi has attended the Librarians Research institute and collaborated and presented at a number of national and international library conferences. She is also a member of the ACRL Science and technology Awards Committee and a Peer Reviewer for Emerald Reference Reviews. *2.Rebecca Raworth * Rebecca Raworth is the Health Sciences Librarian at the University of Victoria Libraries. She received her Master of Library and Information Science from the University of British Columbia in 1990 and has worked in colleges, hospitals and universities since then. Her research interests include health informatics, health equity issues, diversity issues in health care and in libraries and promoting multicultural opportunities in libraries and beyond. She is a peer-reviewer of the Journal of Medical Libraries Association and is an active member of the Canadian Health Libraries Association, American Medical Library Association and the European Association for Health Information and Libraries. Rebecca has taken several graduate courses on research methods including courses on survey methodologies, designing and running focus groups and is experienced in facilitating Information Literacy workshops. *3.Dr Satish Kanamadi * Satish Kanamadi is presently serving as Librarian at Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai. He is a science graduate and has completed his Master’s(1995) and Doctoral Studies (2005) from Karnataka University, Dharwad. He was conferred with two Gold Medals for First Rank at Masters and was awarded UGC Junior Research Fellowship in 1997. He did his PG Diploma in Library Automation and Networking (2000) from Central University of Hyderabad. His major contributions at TISS include "Creating a Networked Library System" to integrate all four campuses of TISS and developing a functional and easy to navigate library portal http://library.tiss.edu to deliver web based library services. Does the provision of Incremental Fine fulfill the Five Laws of Library Science? Five Laws of Library Science enunciated by Dr. S. R. Ranganathan says that 1. Books are for use. 2. Every Book Its reader 3. Every reader his/her book 4. Save the time of Reader 5. Library is a growing organism We the Library Professionals value the above laws to great extent in libraries and try to maximum implement in all aspects but when it comes to Incremental Fine, it raises many questions and in the queue of questions, first question is “Does the provision of incremental fine fulfill the five laws?” Question seems very simple and many of us may say “YES” but some of us may also say “NO” and I am one of NO category. The provision of Incremental Fine creates burden for library users and get pressure from library to return the book on time else s/he will have to pay compulsorily the fine amount next to normal fine as per rule of incremental fine. But, why a user should pay extra amount? Here above laws of library science seems violated. Whey we say Books are for use, Every book it’s reader, Every reader his/her then why libraries are imposing extra fine. If the libraries have to get the book back, they may easily RECALL book or block the user so that s/he will not be eligible to avail services as punishment for violating the rule of not returning the book on time but collecting the extra charges from library users seems like ‘library considers incremental fine as source of revenue’ As a result, this provision may kill the interest of library patron and next time, perhaps s/he may not will to issue any book from library. Perhaps, library may lose the patron interest for visiting library too next time and forever. This may also lead to pass the information by that user to other library users about the negative aspects and as a fear, the other users may stop utilizing the issue/return service of library My question is – “Is it compulsory to impose extra amount, in case user does not return book?” If s/he is not returning book, let the normal fine be imposed as per library policy? Dear LIS Professionals: Dont get provoked by the title of the article by Vint Cerf. Vint Cerf has defined a new role for the library profession! Dr. Vint Cerf, considered one of the fathers of the Internet, because of his invention of the TCP/IP Protocol (with co-inventor Bob Kahn) and currently works for Google as a Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist and in this capacity has become well known for his predictions on how technology will affect future society, encompassing such areas as artificial intelligence, environmentalism, the advent of IPv6 and the transformation of the television industry and its delivery model. In this *CERF'S UP *piece that Vint Cerf regularly writes for the Communications of the Association for Computing Machinery, published in the current issue (February 2019) outlines a new role of libraries in the context of the current challenges of the ‘post truth’ era by posing the question “How to tell that which was true from everything else in this ultimate library?” Librarians have a role to play here as keepers of knowledge, he says. I quote “It will be an enormous task to devise methods to accumulate and curate digital content and its relevant metadata including provenance and validity. Will computer, information, and library science be up to the task?” I have always maintained that libraries’ role is defined by three As (Access, Availability and Archive). May be it is time to add another A – Accuracy. Or as Vint Cerf says ‘care and curate’ information is the primary role of libraries. Dear Colleagues, CLSTL 2019 is almost here! As announced on the conference website http://events.iitgn.ac.in/2019/CLSTL/, we have an array of professional activities lined up during the three day event. This includes keynote addresses by eminent speakers ,talks by leading professionals from around the world, select short presentations and posters by colleagues from reputed institutions in India and abroad. Interesting panel discussions involving noted academicians who consider library as an integral part of their research life, are on the schedule. Webometrics study about speaker's/resource person and organisers

Dear all Many times during international conferences people from abroad is invited as speaker/resource person etc. But do you really know their contribution and innovation in the job? Except understanding that they are having some different skin than Indians? Try to make webometrics study between these invited persons and organisers, in many cases you will find some mutual relationship between them either directly or indirectly. Most of the cases they are doing and managing the same what was passed by their ancestors like us in profession. I don't have much experience on physically visiting abroad but interacting a lot with many professionals abroad online and sharing our knowledge. I feel we have the same potentials as they have but it's a matter of proper utilisations. Dear young library professionals please do some homework before participation in any event and evaluate what knowledge you are going to get at the end of the event else you are just going to become part of crowd. Please note the certificates which you get their by spending huge amount may be available at other similar events at low cost but value will remain same.
