As a coalition of more than 200 academic and research libraries on college and university campuses across the country, SPARC has long advocated for a federal policy that would make the results of taxpayer-funded research immediately available for the public to freely access and fully use. We wholeheartedly endorse updating current policy and eliminating the unnecessary 12-month waiting period for the public to gain access to the outputs of taxpayer-funded scientific research, including data, articles, and the supporting computer code. Ensuring full open access to articles and data reporting on the results of publicly funded research will deliver important benefits to all by improving scientific productivity, generating new uses and applications for research, empowering startup ventures and businesses, and giving patients and their families hope of finding cures to rare and currently untreatable diseases. Dear All, I have served the English and Foreign Languages University for about two decades as LIS professional. My passion is to establish village libraries and I was fortunate to have come into contact with several young library enthusiasts working mainly in the two Telugu speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Already they are running several village libraries, including the one in Gundrampally (Nalgonda district, Telangana State) which is evolving as the model village library. The available data about Indian research papers reveal that a very large number of papers are rejected in highly scholarly journals. There are many reasons for such a poor state of the environment. An article in Current Science highlighted the causes of rejection of scientific papers produced in the Third world countries. It includes lack of knowledge of scientific research, poor writing skills, language issues, absence of novelty in research and so on. If researchers are directed in the right way of writing good pieces of research, it may increase the level of Indian research publications. Realizing this value, a training workshop is planned for two days at the Vellalar College for Women, Erode. The proposed training workshop addresses the following issues. The ways of producing good research and writing high-level papers Gain exposure for creating new approaches and solving research issues Understanding the requirements of a good paper The characteristics of a good scientific reporting The approaches to understand a system of quality writing The content of a good research, good review and revision These issues can be explained to Indian academic researchers, particularly the young ones. Focusing the researchers on such issues will be possible by orienting them in training sessions. A training programme can be a model to carry out this plan. The following themes will be more purposeful. How to produce qualitative research publication? How to reflect the research carried out through the publication? What are the measures for research impact? What is the best way to disseminate research? How to structure the research publication? How to assess the reviewed publication? What is indexed research? How to integrate the research in the process of global review and indexing? How to increase the research publication quality and record high research productivity? How to improve English language presentation and proof-read the language without language experts How to find collaborators and form a collaborative network in research The above issues are just a few examples of the issues focused on the researchers. Young researchers need to be motivated to generate high-quality research. They need to be focused on global reviewed and indexed research. The program will also address the issues such as Information access pattern, Research collaboration, strategies for generating good pieces of research and improving research quality. This program will enable the researchers to understand the research publication process and to participate in the global research network. The programme will discuss the ways to optimize the research publication activities and the structure of research publications, review and indexing process, methods of generating good publications, demonstration of global indexing databases, research networks and other citation and evaluation metrics. The programme will have presentations, illustrations and discussions. The program will also have an exclusive session with interaction and discussions on ‘academic profiling with research publications and citation metrics’. The second session will have a presentation on case studies and illustrations in various subjects and domains. The participants can send draft papers and the papers will be discussed for good writing. Training Session Faculty The proposed programme will be addressed by eminent and experienced international researchers and information scientists.
