Building Bridges for Social Justice in Global Publishing: Seeking the Mexican Perspective: The Serials Librarian: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/0361526X.2020.1731858?journalCo… At the NASIG 2019 Conference, the presenter outlined how the dominance of English-language publishers based in the Global North negatively impacts researchers in Puebla, Mexico. Universities in the Global South must compete in world-wide university ranking systems, which intensifies the pressure to compete with researchers in the Global North to publish in journals of the Global North in order to demonstrate global competitiveness and local career standing. To support those competitive publishing expectations, institutions of the Global South must also subscribe to English-language journal packages of the Global North, thus locking in a cycle of academic publishing dominance. Meanwhile, Latin America is developing quality Open Access (OA) alternatives. In May 2018, the presenter received funding from a NASIG grant to interview journal editors and librarians at universities in Puebla, Mexico. Through these interviews, the presenter sought to explore challenges for researchers publishing in Global North journals, discuss the role of OA at the interviewees’ institutions, consider the future outlook for OA in Mexico, and examine the social justice implications of the academic journal publishing ecosystem. It is a resurgence of an institution that was founded in the past in 1880 as a seminary, by Dr. G .U. Pope, the revered missionary from England and run for only three years in Sawyerpuram. The college was later incorporated with Madras Christian College, Chennai for certain reasons. The college was rejuvenated as a regular institution in 1962 with pragmatic memories of Pope in the red soil of Sawyerpuram, with the help of alumni association (POBA) of Pope Memorial High School and a team of dedicated pioneer staff members, under the skilled guidance of Prof. D.S. George Muller, the founder principal.It is an autonomous and co-educational institution. It is a rural college accredited with ‘A’ Grade (CGPA-3.28) by NAAC in cycle-II. It is managed by CSI-Thoothukudi-Nazareth Diocese and affiliated to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli. The college has about 40 acres of functional area with multi-storeyed buildings. The college offers 10 UG, 6 PG, 4 M.Phil. and 13 Career Oriented programmes. Three of the departments are elevated as research centres. About the Library The General Library of Pope’s College was established on 31st March 1963 with 1000 text books and five periodicals largely donated by Prof. D.S. George Muller, the founder principal of the College. The General Library of Pope’s college has the vision to create knowledge among the students to enhance their power to light India. The Library was earlier housed in the Main block from 1962 to 2011. The new library building with a carpet area of 3000 sq.ft. was opened on 10th May 2011 . The New Library building has been aptly named as Prof. D.S. George Muller library in remembrance of his dedicated service to the student community of Pope’s College, Sawyerpuram. The Library is housed with 37523 volumes of books with 15476 titles, 30 journals 10 magazines and NLIST e-resources. More than 150 students are daily using the Library. About the Workshop Library is an information center and caters the needs of the staff, students and scholar community. it is the right place to acquire knowledge. Library also provides the resources like curriculum based materials, academic work, self assessment and research work to the academic community. This programme also encourages the academic community to improve the reading, writing, research skills and ability to use the e- resources. Dear LIS-Forum Members, It is with great pleasure we invite interested LIS-Forum members to the 2-day Conference on “Information Transformation and Informatics in the Digital Era: Opportunities and Challenges” during 12-13 March 2020 at NAAS, NASC Complex, New Delhi. The Conference, jointly organized by CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (CSIR-NISCAIR) and CSIR-Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (CSIR-TKDL) Unit and will focus on technologies and tools for S&T Information Transformation, and the effective approaches for targeted consumption of such information. The sessions planned for the 2 days include (i) Information: Organization, Systems and Retrieval; (ii) Specialized Online Databases; (iii) Data Visualization & Infographics and (iv) Artificial Intelligence. We have invited speakers, from across the country, from both public and private sector, for these four sessions. In addition, Panel Discussions are proposed for both days. The topic for the first day is "Digital Information Landscape: Opportunities and Challenges"; and for the second day it is "Information Transformation: The Path Ahead". This would be followed by a Valedictory Address. It also gives us great pleasure to inform you that Dr. Shekhar Mande, DG, CSIR and Secretary, DSIR has kindly consented to inaugurate the Conference. dear all, I have a query regarding the approval process in homeopathy medical college while filling the form (Authority: CCRH New Delhi and KUHS, Kerala) Q1. whether cataloging is done in the library? if yes name? (my doubt is that what they are intended to ask? hence there is no question for classification or Lms, OPAC once i have given AACR2 ,they won't ACCEPT IT) what answer I will give ) OPTION 1. OPAC OPT 2. AACR2 OPT 3. DDC OPT 4. I know him for the last seven to eight years and has been following his professional activities. A deserving candidate reaching the deserved position. Dr. Santosh was a rank holder and gold medalist from Karnatak University Dharwad in the year 2004 and he had his Ph.D. from the University of Mumbai (2017).
