Invitation to participate in the 2025 International Library Automation Perceptions Survey
by Marshall Breeding 27 Nov '25

27 Nov '25

The 2025 edition of the International Library Automation Perceptions Survey is now open. For nearly two decades (since 2007), this annual study conducted through Library Technology Guides<https://librarytechnology.org/> has documented how libraries around the world view the systems they rely on to manage their collections and serve their communities. Your participation is vital in helping the profession understand how well current automation systems and discovery services meet real-world needs. We are especially interested in receiving responses from libraries in India since they are generally unrepresented in international studies on library automation. Please respond for your library and distribute this invitation thorough any other channels that can reach librarians throughout the country. Your efforts will help bring recognition and awareness of the important efforts made to automate the academic, public, school, and special libraries in India. Why your response matters: * Amplify your library’s voice: Your input helps shape an objective picture of vendor performance, product quality, and support satisfaction. * Guide future decisions: The published results inform libraries considering migrations understand the performance of both proprietary and open source solutions. * Provide constructive feedback: Vendors use the findings to improve their products and services. Your candid insights make a difference. While the numeric ratings provide valuable benchmarking data, the narrative comments also provide essential perspectives. All comments are published in anonymized form to protect individual and institutional identities. If you have participated in past years, please consider responding again this year. Your library’s continued input helps identify year-to-year trends in satisfaction and product development. Take the Survey 👉 Begin the 2025 Library Automation Perceptions Survey<https://librarytechnology.org/perceptions/2025/invite/> You can also review the 2024 survey results<https://librarytechnology.org/perceptions/2024/> and data from all previous editions on the Library Technology Guides website. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience and contribute to this long-standing community resource. Press release: CABI introduces SDGenie (beta) to help researchers stay on target
by Maria Campbell 11 Nov '25

11 Nov '25

*With apologies for cross-posting* Dear colleagues, We would like to share some news about a new, free-to-use research tool that explores how text can be matched to specific targets set out in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The full press release is available here - https://www.cabidigitallibrary.org/do/10.5555/news-cabi-introduces-sdgenie-… - and an excerpt is included below. Thank you for your attention. Maria Campbell Marketing Manager, CABI cabi.org - cabidigitallibrary.org ***** CABI introduces SDGenie (beta) to help researchers stay on target Wallingford, UK, 11 November 2025: CABI is pleased to introduce SDGenie (beta), a new, prototype tool that explores how text, such as research abstracts, can be matched to specific targets set out in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDGenie (beta) is free to use and offers researchers a new way to identify detailed targets - rather than goals alone - and, therefore, to make their work more relevant to the SDGs. There are 169 targets, which define actionable priorities. Together with indicators, they help to measure progress towards achieving the SDGs by 2030. According to the UN, "This year's Sustainable Development Goals Report<https://unstats.un.org/sdgs/report/2025/The-Sustainable-Development-Goals-R…> finds that only 35 per cent of SDG targets are on track or making moderate progress. Nearly half are moving too slowly and, alarmingly, 18 per cent are in reverse... This comprehensive assessment underscores the urgent need for intensified efforts to put the SDGs on course." In publishing terms, that means increasing the impact of research. Importance of Heritage Libraries--An Example
by prafulla tv 10 Nov '25

10 Nov '25

SRI KRISHNADEVARAYA TELUGU BHASHA NILAYAM (Sultan Bazar, Hyderabad), one of the oldest libraries inTelangana, was established on September 1st, 1901 by eminentpersonalities such as Jagirdar Sri Ravichettu Ranga Rao, Sri Komarraju VenkataLaxmana Rao (Diwan of Munagala Raja), and Sri Adiraju Veerabhadra Rao toprotect the Telugu language and culture. It began its operations from JagirdarRanga Rao’s own bungalow in Ramkoti. As it became very popular with increasednumber of readers, it was shifted to a rented bungalow in Koti. Followingsudden death of Sri Ranga Rao on July 3rd, 1910, his wife SmtLakshmi Narasamma, resolved to fulfill her husband’s dream of providing its ownbuilding to this library. She donated Rs.3000 for the purchase of a old tiledhouse in Ramkoti (the same place where the present multistoried buildingstands) to accommodate this library. In 1915, Sri Madapati Hanumantha Rao, whotook over as Secretary of this library, collected donations worth Rs.12000 frompeople, dismantled the old tiled house and completed the present building in1921.Unfortunately Smt Lakshmi Narasamma passed away on October 25th,1918 without seeing the new building. It was hercontribution of Rs.3000, a big amount in those times, which laid the strong foundationfor a great heritage library. It celebrated its 125thanniversary on September 1st this year. It has an invaluable collection of 53776 booksin Telugu, English, Urdu, and Hindi. Recently,a faculty member of English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) approachedthis heritage library for the book History of Japan, published in 1906.It is a matter of great delight that this book was retrieved within minutes. The document treasure we see today inthis library is the result of selfless service and sacrifice, spanning 125years, of several individuals such as Sri Boorgula Ramakrishna Rao, Sri KodatiNarayana Rao, Prof. B Rama Raju, Dr. Dasarathi and Sri ML Narasimha Rao.
