Implementation of Koha/DSpace and organising workshop at no cost
by Vinod Kumar Mishra 19 May '14

19 May '14

Dear All, We are getting many responses from various institutes to assist them in implementation of Koha and DSpace although we are always trying our best to help them online but always it is not possible specially when people at remote place is not to much technically sound and some other technical reasons. Therefore we propose such institutes to organize the workshop for at least 2/3 days and we can not only implement the above software's during that time but many will have opportunity to learn the same. It is just like technical training not to only one library staffs but to many library professionals along with implementation at one site. The above proposal does not involve any cost accept TA/DA. Please feel free to contact for any details. Please visit our Koha website at: http://opac.nitrkl.ac.in/ Thanking You. by Vimal Kumar V. 19 May '14

19 May '14

Dear Friends, If you work in an organization that isn’t focused on development, where computer systems are used to support other core business functions, getting management buy-in for the use of open source can be tricky. Here's how negotiate with your boss and your team to get them to accept and try open source software. http://opensource.com/business/14/5/negotiate-open-source-on-the-job Regards, -- Vimal Kumar V. z39.50 Taget Directory
by DP Tripathi 19 May '14

19 May '14

Dear Friends, We all are using library automation software whether it is commercial or open source. Now a days, in most of the software, there is provision for copy cataloguing through z39.50 target. We find difficult in getting the z39.50 server detail through Internet. Recently I came to know one source which covers most of z39.50 target. Hope this will be helpful to you all. The most attractive thing of this website is that you can search the z39.50 target based on your keywords. For ex: If someone wants to search the z39.50 target only for special library, then search it with the keyword 'Special Library' It will give you the result which has z39.50 target detail related to keyword. http://irspy.indexdata.com Thanks, -- ********************* D. NSF report on global shares of S&E article output
by Dr. J. K. Vijayakumar 18 May '14

18 May '14

A recent report from the US National Science Foundation, Science and Engineering Indicators 2014 summarizes the outputs of Academic S&E Research. It is interesting to note that the percentage of output from American and European nations are coming down and Chinese percentage is increased close to 4 times. India is also making progress, but not as China does!! Global shares of S&E article output of the United States, the European Union (EU), and Japan have declined. China’s global share has risen sharply. * The United States, the world’s second-largest producer, accounted for 26% of the world’s total S&E articles in 2011, down from 30% in 2001. The share for the EU, the world’s largest producer, also declined, from 35% in 2001 to 31% in 2011. Japan’s share fell from 9% to 6%. * China grew the fastest among larger developing economies, with its share rising from 3% to 11%. China has become the world’s third-largest producer of scientific articles, after the EU and the United States. * Brazil and India also grew rapidly, with their global shares reaching 2% and 3%, respectively. Iran, a developing nation with a much smaller publication base in 2001, grew to a 1% global share by 2011.
