Data Entry in MARC Format as per AACR-2 Rule
by Dp Tripathi 17 Jul '16

Data Entry in MARC Format as per AACR-2 Rule Dear All, For any library professional who deals with document cataloguing, it is always challenge to do proper cataloguing in order to enable appropriate and proper searching based on available data entered or maintained. Sometimes, professional finds difficult when he/she comes across different kind of books such as single author, two authors, three authors, more than three authors, editor, corporate author, meeting name and so on. As a result, if professional is not through with rules, may commit mistake in cataloguing as well as in data entry. Keeping that in view, I prepared on document for proper data entry in MARC format based on AACR-2 Rule. This documents covers almost all possible cases we generally come across in our library. It also describes the minimum MARC fields required for any document to do the data entry. This PDF document can be downloaded at http://www.dptripathi.in/download/marc.pdf <http://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dptripathi.in%2Fdownload%2Fm…> I have also developed an Android Application which can be installed on any Android Supported Smartphone. This app can be downloaded at www.dptripathi.in/download/marc21.apk It includes the full details about MARC (Source: www.loc.gov <http://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.loc.gov%2F&h=RAQEyO65WAQHz32…>) Hope this will be useful for the professionals and profession. Your suggestion and feedback for further improvement is most welcome. by Salman Haider 16 Jul '16

*Library and Information Science Dissertations and Theses <https://librarianshipstudies.blogspot.com/2016/07/dissertations-theses.html>* https://librarianshipstudies.blogspot.com/2016/07/dissertations-theses.html Reference sources for doctoral and master's dissertations and theses in Library and Information Science (LIS). General reference databases are listed first which is followed by the repositories and digital libraries of individual countries and universities. It also provides information on the online availability of electronic theses through centrally-maintained digital repositories which not only ensure easy access and archiving of doctoral theses but will also help in raising the standard and quality of research. Theses and dissertations are known to be the rich and unique source of information, often the only source of research work that does not find its way into various publication channels. Theses and dissertations remain an untapped and under-utilized asset, leading to unnecessary duplication and repetition. This entry *Library and Information Science Dissertations and Theses* in the Librarian's Reference Directory <https://librarianshipstudies.blogspot.com/p/librarians-reference-directory.…> is expected to be the most comprehensive listing of sources of information on LIS dissertations and theses. It will enable LIS researchers with wider dissemination of information leading to improved referral and citation. It will not only bring more visibility and greater recognition to the researchers and their work but also help improve their rankings. It will be of immense help to the researchers in the task of literature search and review of related areas. Besides the literature reviews, the availability of comprehensive sources of LIS dissertations and thesis will give information on research studies already undertaken which will also help future researchers in identifying and formulating the topic of their research. It will eliminate the possibilities for researchers ending up pursuing a topic of research that has already been undertaken at the same or other universities. ... ... ... *Read now complete article: * https://librarianshipstudies.blogspot.com/2016/07/dissertations-theses.html *Salman Haider* <https://salmanhaider.blogspot.com> -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

First Global E-Book Aggregation Platform in India
by Prof. Siddamallaiah HS 14 Jul '16

14 Jul '16

I feel proud to congratulate Informatics India Ltd, for launching eBoox.in, an aggregation of global e-books with ambition to cover more Indian books. This platform really gives on par visibility for Indian books as a global product. It is pride for all Indians, specifically library and information Science professionals in India, for such a contribution in a movement like ‘digital India’ and being a global product as ‘Make in India’. Informatics, being an early pioneer in introducing online and new library technology products to Indian libraries, started developing many products and services in digital media and continued to scale itself in development of global product. This is perhaps the first e-book aggregation product from Indian companies, for academic and research users, covering both global and local content in all disciplines. The interface, as I could briefly browse, is neat and easy to navigate. I feel that library and information professionals from India should not just be a passive user of such Indian products; they should participate in nurturing such products from India, specifically for a trendy user-interface. Informatics has been very pro-active for such participation from librarians and academicians, since its inception. Content base, as I could notice, started with quality publications from reputed Indian academic and Government institutions like TERI, Central Board of Irrigation & Power, etc., besides commercial publishers, eBoox.in can emerge as a good choice for difficult-to-find Indian content for researchers. As a Medical Librarian I am happy to see medical titles in eBoox.in from S Kargar, a familiar and highly renowned global publishers. More than just wishing informatics a good luck and success, I wish librarians as well as academicians/ Researcher should participate for par development with other global products.
