This training was developed at the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and in partnership with library trainers in Namibia, Myanmar, Armenia, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Haiti, Tunisia, Bangladesh, and Cameroon (AfLIA). This leadership curriculum is unique because it was co-developed, and it is meant to be delivered to everyone in the library, from volunteers to senior staff. Equally important is that it is adaptable and is designed to be used by trainers with different levels of experience. Training modules: 1. Leadership Styles for Librarians 2. Library Leaders as Innovators 3. Library Leaders with a Plan 4. Library Leaders as Communicators Training Features: · This training is foundational, and is a helpful first step in developing engaged and innovative staff in a library. · The modules are interactive. Many lectures were replaced with engaging activities to help facilitate learning. · SILL is designed to be adapted to local needs. · Short videos are available on the website to help trainers prepare to conduct the training. · SILL was designed at the Mortenson Center, and heavily revised after input from colleagues around the world. · To date over 500 librarians have been trained with SILL. · SILL has been translated into a few different languages, with hopes that more will be added as it is used. Indian Statistical Institute Documentation Research and Training Centre Seminar-4 Geographical Information System and its Applications Abstract The data doesn't make much sense until it is spatially related to other data. Geographic Information System (GIS) is one such system that can put a spatial perspective to the collected data. GIS is a computer-based tool that analyzes, stores, manipulates and visualizes geographic information, usually on a map. Nevertheless, it is not just used for mapping but is also used for decision-making in urban planning, public health, crime pattern recognition, agriculture, and so forth. This seminar will discuss the history of GIS, its components, and the various GIS models. The seminar will brief the software used for analysing the data and the tools involved in mapping. The focus of the seminar will be on the application of these techniques in the fields of agriculture, astronomy, and public health. Bronze Award Winner: Libraries NITwo Cities One Book - Belfast Dublin During April 2016, with a modest budget, Libraries NI launched a ‘Two Cities One Book’ initiative by partnering with Dublin City Libraries, in association with Penguin Random House book publisher, to encourage people in Belfast and Dublin to read and discuss ‘Fallen’ by author Lia Mills. Bronze Award Winner: Shropshire LibrariesPicture This A creative innovative arts programme in libraries across Shropshire for young people aged 11-14yrs. In the 2 day workshops in the 6 main libraries, 60 young people developed original pieces of performance and set design. Performances in each library and a touring exhibition showcased what had been achieved. Bronze Award Winner: Staffordshire Library and Arts ServiceJ.R.R. Tolkien in Staffordshire – Touring Exhibition This project created a touring exhibition celebrating the importance of Staffordshire in the early life of J.R.R.Tolkien, in particular the influence of his time in the County on his early writings and development of Middle-earth. This involved developing a HLF bid, touring and promotional plan and working with a voluntary organisation Bronze Award Winner: University of York LibraryUoYTips: Marketing the library to new users The UoYTips project was based on running the annual library induction for new students as a marketing campaign, rather than merely an orientation exercise. The results were a huge increase in engagement from new library users, and increased credibility and respect for the library from academic Departments.
