Inviting you to participate in an exciting and meaningful conference in Cambodia (Jan 3-4, 2019)
by samchu 04 Oct '18

04 Oct '18

Dear all, I am a Co-Chair of the Association for Information Science and Technology / ASIS&T (Asia-Pacific Chapter) and an associate professor at The University of Hong Kong (Faculty of Education). Our Association is holding a conference in Cambodia with “Effective Learning in Low-Tech Information Environments” as the theme (https://www.asist.org/events/regional-meetings/asiapacificregionalconferenc…) The conference is organized and supported by a team of esteemed international experts in Information Science and Learning Sciences from 19 different countries. We believe that the Conference can help Cambodia to move forward in applying knowledge and techniques in the two disciplines for the benefits of the Cambodian learners, as well as learners in other developing countries. This conference aims to attract 200+ attendees from around the world, including professors, researchers, teachers, librarians, policy makers, and students. Some famous scholars have agreed to attend and give keynote speeches at the conference. In addition, a special panel disscussion will be held during the conference with the theme “how Information Science and Learning Sciences may help Cambodia move forward in the 21st Century”. A number of distinguished guests from Cambodia and other countries will be joining the discussion. What works in Cambodia will likely work in other less developed countries as well. Other conference highlights include: (1). a workshop titled “Publishing in high quality journals” that targets junior researchers and PhD students who want to develop the ability to conceive an impactful research, to conduct the research properly, and to write up an interesting article to maximize its chance at publishing in a high quality journal; (2). a workshop titled “Developing students’ reading and writing skills through gamified learning and digital story telling” that aims to help teachers and librarians in making good use of gamified learning and digital story telling to facilitate students’ development in their reading and writing abilities. Apart from attending the conference, you will have many chances to enjoy delicious Cambodian food and the pleasant Cambodian weather. Compared to many places in the world, Cambodia is a safe place for visitors (https://www.asist.org/events/regional-meetings/asiapacificregionalconferenc…) After the conference, you are invited to (1). join a tour to the famous historical site Angkor Wat in Siem Reap which has triumphed across the centuries to emerge as the world’s top tourism landmark in TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice awards – for the second time since 2015. Lonely Planet, another travel site, gave the temples of Angkor the top spot in 2014. Angkor Wat is also ranked very high on Google (rated 4.7/5 on average by 7,762 Google reviewers); (2). Join a team of students and professionals in implementing a new way of voluntary teaching for Cambodian students (from kindergarten to secondary), to learn English happily and effectively. A tentative conference program is available at https://goo.gl/WEZRRh Please note that the deadline for submitting papers, posters, workshops, or other items is now on October 22, 2018. We welcome your submission on almost anything under Information Science or Learning/Education Sciences, though something more relevant to the conference theme will be greatly appreciated. If you are pressed for time, you may consider submitting a short paper (4 pages) or a poster (2 pages). See https://www.asist.org/events/regional-meetings/asiapacificregionalconferenc…. If you need assistance, we would love to coach you in writing one. To encourage students to join ASIS&T and this conference, a 50% discount on the registration fee is available for ASIS&T student members on a first come first served basis. The first 20+ early-bird student member registrants will now only pay around $40 USD for joining the conference (after joining ASIS&T as a member). Please register as soon as possible at https://www.asist.org/events/regional-meetings/asiapacificregionalconferenc… Feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding the conference. I look forward to meeting you at this wonderful conference! (Sorry for cross-posting.) Best Regards, Sam Chu, Conference Chair for ASIS&T Regional Conference in Cambodia? Head, Library & Deputy Librarian, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, Punjab – 140 001 Abstract: Analyzing the productivity and characteristics of Journals is very important and comparing them at the international level is very useful to the researchers, subscribing institutions, funding organizations and professional bodies for many reasons. A researcher gets many clues on the quality of Journals; subscribing institutions get to know many ideas about the kind and quality of Journals before they decide for subscriptions. Funding institutions understand the quality of published research output of researchers and the assessment of the quality of Journals helps the professional societies to improve the quality of Journals they publish. This study centered on seven objectives and four hypotheses. Subject-wise distribution of Journals in SJR and JCR; Ranking of Journals based on SJR and JCR indicators; Ranking of Journals based on h-index; Correlation between different quality metrics; Citation relationship across the Journals; Comparing the ranking of Journals published in India with International level using SJR and JCR; Geographical distribution and Type of Journals published. This study brought out key suggestions and recommendations. Some of the important findings of the study are: Out of seven subject areas considered for the study, multidisciplinary Journals constitute a major share in SJR; Only one Journal in multidisciplinary have an SJR score of more than one, it is same in JCR that has Impact Factor of one and above; Significant differences are found among IPP & SNIP metrics in SJR; Found significant differences in SJR scores of International level Journals when compared with the Journals published in India; Journals published from India are nowhere comparable at the international level in the HSS field; Most of the top-ranked Journals at international level are published either from USA or UK; Spearman’s rank coefficient used in the study to find out the correlations between citable documents and total cites indicates a positive relationship between citable documents and total cites. Overall the study enhances the visibility of HSS journals at the global level.
