by vinod mishra 26 Nov '19

26 Nov '19

Dear all I have seen many lecture and people talking about Big data but I could not understand how this concept is helpful for the library professionals and library patrons. What a library professionals can do with big data if we don't understand properly how to handle small data of catalogue, Digital repositories, etc. Please educate me being academic librarian what I can do with big data and where I can find it in library? Is there any relevance of this concept for libraries in Indian context or at present it is one of the topic to speak and keep in syllabus/conferences? Thanking You

Workshop on "Interactive Data Storytelling and Visualization" on 14th December 2019 (Saturday)
by Vijay Vikram S Parihar 25 Nov '19

25 Nov '19

Dear Professional, We invite you to participate in a Workshop on "Interactive Data Storytelling and Visualization" which is being organized on 14th December 2019 (Saturday). Background: Any great story means visualization and detail. It takes the small additions of those details to build a picture in someone's mind to truly make the story complete. The same goes for analytics and data. However, interpreting all the data correctly and turning it into a great story can be an intimidating task that many organizations struggle to accomplish. So, what does it mean to "tell a story with data?" Data is just a collection of numbers until you turn it into a story. Showing reports and dashboards can be overwhelming without adding a narrative to the data. Any great insight explains what happened, why it is important and how you can use it to turn it into something actionable. Data visualization is using data and statistics in creative ways to show patterns and draw conclusions about a hypothesis, or prove theories, that can help drive decisions in the organization. Why is it important? Telling a great data-driven story can be useful for both stakeholders and your customers and can drive better decision making within an organization and also drive conversions with your customers. How to join the workshop? Joining this workshop is your first stepping stone in the milestone. If you want to be part of the action and insight, then join the workshop. Some of the leading experts from the industry are going to share their experiences. You will also get hands on experience to work on various tools and techniques. Just fill up the registration form and paying a nominal amount to meet the workshop expenses send it across to us at the earliest. We can accommodate only 50 on first-cum-first basis. To join the workshop, any interested aspirants can send his / her credentials (i.e. Name, Organization name, Address, e.mail ID and Contact Number) through e.mail to <SG.knowledgemanagement(a)gmail.com<mailto:SG.knowledgemanagement@gmail.com>> or <sganguly67(a)gmail.com<mailto:sganguly67@gmail.com>>. No Final Decision Yet on Merger of UGC and AICTE, Says HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal
by Deepak Wadtele 22 Nov '19

*Respected All, * *News Update:- * No Final Decision Yet on Merger of UGC and AICTE, Says HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal *| News 18 | **PTI* | *November 21, 2019 | * *In September this year, the HRD minister had said the bill was in final stages and will be taken to the Union Cabinet in October.* [image: image.png] *New Delhi:* No final decision has been taken yet on merger of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said on Thursday. “Till now, no final decision has been taken on this issue,” Nishank said in response to a written question in the Rajya Sabha. Last year, the Human Resource Development Ministry had announced its decision to replace the UGC by repealing the UGC Act, 1951. A draft bill for this was put in public domain for feedback. However, it was decided later that the Higher Education Commission of India will also take over the AICTE. In September this year, the minister said the bill was in final stages and will be taken to the Union Cabinet in October. “The *Higher Education Commission of India* will be a single regulator and replace UGC and AICTE. The bill has been prepared after elaborate consultation with states. It will be taken to the Cabinet in October,” he had tweeted. The draft bill had proposed *HECI* to control academic matters while an advisory board under the HRD minister would be in charge of issuing monetary grants to universities. But various student groups had opposed the handing over of the financial control to the HRD ministry. UGC is the regulator for universities across the country and AICTE acts as a regulator for engineering, pharmacy, management and other technical education colleges. *Source :- * *https://www.news18.com/news/india/no-final-decision-yet-on-merger-of-ugc-and-aicte-says-hrd-minister-ramesh-pokhriyal-2395449.html* <https://www.news18.com/news/india/no-final-decision-yet-on-merger-of-ugc-an…> *https://indianexpress.com/article/education/no-final-decision-yet-on-merger-of-ugc-aicte-hrd-minister-ramesh-pokhriyal-nishank-6130679/* <https://indianexpress.com/article/education/no-final-decision-yet-on-merger…> *Thanks with regards Deepak B.
