RBEI K-Centre is looking for a Library Trainee with working knowledge of MS office, exposure to library automation software and possess good communication skills in English. Title: Library Trainee No. of Positions: 1 Location: Bangalore Qualification: D. L. I. Sc or B.L.I.Sc (Regular stream) Experience Level: Fresher only Technical Skills: MS Office, Skype, Using Barcode Printers, Scanners, Image Scanners. Hands on experience with Library automation tools. Sad demise of Prof A K Bardol

I am extremely saddened to hear sudden passing away Prof Ashok K Bardol. We were class fellows in B Lib SC course at KUD during 1971-72. I heard from his students that he was a wonderful teacher and guided many students for their Ph D degree. He retired from University of Mangalore. We lost one excellent library professional and I lost one good friend. I wish God grant enough strength to his family to bear this great loss. May his soul rest in peace. Online social media platforms play an important role in spreading and promoting scholarly and scientific publications. The traditional citation-based metrics do not consider the increasing variety of online references to a scholar's work. Altmetric, an alternative to traditional bibliometrics, measures the scholarly publications not only based on the citations but also the views, share, comments, mentions, downloads, etc. in social media platforms, such as Twitter, blogs, Wikipedia, Youtube, Facebook. In this colloquium, we will discuss the evolution of altmetrics, relevant tools and recommendations. We will also talk about on deriving methods of altmetrics scores, various agents with the special emphasis on libraries and impacts of altmetrics on the scholarly community. Libraries that aren’t on the same page with time

It was not the case of Kochi city public libraries.Recently I was interacted with known public library librarian told me that what books selects and sending to the libraries will not be much used by public (Dept can take usage statistics to understand) and discussed other issues like digitization, infrastructure, budget etc. Department unless and until up-skill its employees to make effective use to digitized library or any modern technologies implemented, it will become one more failure attempt.
