Dear Colleagues: I am happy to inform you that IIM Kozhikode (http://www.iimk.ac.in) is organizing a three-day programme on ePublishing during September 6-8, 2004. The programme is targeted at publishers, information intermediaries, information science and IT professionals. The program details are available at "http://intranet.iimk.ac.in/epublishing.htm". The programme will impart the knowledge and skills (conceptual as well as technical components) that the information industry professionals need to position themselves at the cutting edge of technology and the profession. Eminent faculty from the fields of information science and information technology will be handling the sessions. May be Mr. Vijaya Kumar can come out with his strategy, based on his experience and the inputs he has received from LIS-Forum, as to how should an institution go about in procuring large number of *useful* books in one shot. --------note ends here--------- Stimulating to the mail of our Library professional Mr. Abhilash, SKCET-coimbatore on 25,000 titles of Engineering. As per you, the function of LIS forum is to solve the problems which are or which will be faced by junior/ senior library professionals, but it should not be used as a stage for critiscising the problem(s)/ request of any library professionals. We should always use LIS forum to give moral support or practical solution to over come the problem(s), which yields to use of LIS forum once again for the benefit of library and library user Mr. Abhilash points out that, "One of our respectable member tried to lay a partition line between Private College librarians and Public Librarians". But I didn't find any particition which layed by one of the member, but I find amalgamation of vegetables and books, vegetable market and library only. Simply with out knowing the situatuion, the others should not critise the mails of any other librarians. As they have a taken good deciscion in taking the help of LIS forum to meet their management or library requirement . If possible we should help morally or practically other wise we should not critise. We should always motivate the young professionals to utilize the LIS forum for the benefit of the Library, library user and their Institution. Mr. Basudev Mohanty rightly points out that the "the books should not be compared to the vegetables" As the books are product of the human experience, knowledge in their filed.
