Friends, Dr. T. B Rajashekar Memorial seminar on Information Management in Digital Era was inaugurated on 12 November 2005 by Dr. Shalini Urs, Chairman, Dept of Library and Information Science, University of Mysore at NCSI Seminar Hall. The seminar was conducted under the aegis of Dr. TBR Memorial. Dr. TBR Memorial is an initiative in memory of Dr. T.B.Rajashekar started by NCSI-NET, an association of staff, students and alumni of National Center for Science Information (NCSI), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Inaugurating the seminar, Prof. Shalini Urs, shared her memories with Dr. TBR, who was her batch mate during their Bachelors course in Library Science. She said his greatest quality was he knew his strengths and weakness. She fondly recollected her association with Dr. TBR and hoped that his students carry forward his legacy, which will be the greatest tribute one can pay to him. Mr. N.V.Satyanarayana, MD, Informatics India Ltd., Bangalore and Prof. K.S. Raghavan delivered the invited lectures on "What makes Information Professionals Tick Effectively" and "Challenges in LIS Education". Mr. Satyanarayana emphasized the need for students to have the right attitude, which is the biggest attribute after knowledge and information. Information Profession is not limited to the traditional library alone, the stream has grown into many new areas, key among them being Knowledge Process with the influx of BPO industry. Prof. Raghavan highlighted the challenges, which are faced in LIS education. He stressed upon the fact that students have to gear themselves up to meet the industry expectations of being knowledge workers. Delivering the valedictory address, Dr. N.V. Joshi, Chairman, NCSI, said the seminar is an indicator of his popularity as a teacher and mentor. Prof. A G Menon, former Chairman, NCSI participated in the inaugural address. The seminar was attended by 55 Final year students of Master in Library Science, from universities across India. The one-day seminar focused on Digitization and digital Library and Effective Web Searching techniques. The workshop was conducted and coordinated by NCSI-Net and its members. Peter F. Drucker We wanted to note the passing -- and celebrate the life -- of Peter Drucker, who died Friday, 11Nov.'05, at the ripe old age of 95. To call him a "management guru", his common appellation, falls far short of describing his wonderful career and the enormous impact he had on global business. The author of some three dozen books, he believed in streamlined management and the empowerment of workers, trends that have been embraced by business large and small around the globe. Anyone who has ever been to a business school or held any kind of reasonably senior management job will know the name Peter Drucker. The Austrian-born journalist and intellectual taught, wrote and advised companies on management techniques for seven decades, completing his 35th book at age 94. Drucker was renowned for his clear thinking and analysis, rather than any single theory or research.
