Date: 30 May 2006 12:35:52 -0000 From: vishal verma <vishal_56verma(a)rediffmail.com> Dear all, Now with improved and comparatively low priced than earlier, RFID solutions address the security issues in libraries. And not only the security issue= s but also many other routine and repetitive tasks like stock verification, sorting of books, check-out/in, etc=85 can be automated without much human intervention, which leads to better & improved services, efficient use of = library staff and avoiding inadvertent manual mistakes. Another advantage of RFID over magnetic tattle is one need not to swipe lib= rary resources for charging and discharging magnetic tattle every time reso= urces go out and come into the library after checkout and checkin. In case of RFID the security bit in the tag automatically gets disarmed on checkout and armed on checkin without one needs to swipe it manually. Moreover the skilled staffs who undergo rigorous two year training would be freed by the automated process and can be put to more meaningful tasks viz=. reference services than repetitive works. In fact two of the implementation of RFID in Indian Libraries have been don= e by Edutech India Pvt. Ltd. at IIT Madras and IIM Indore. The journal publishes letters, research papers, review articles, comments and book reviews on all theoretical and experimental aspects of modern general relativity and gravitation and its extensions. New Editors-in-Chief and Editorial Board In addition, Springer is pleased to announce that George Ellis and Hermann Nicolai have jointly started as new Editors-in-Chief. Furthermore, a new and highly committed editorial board has been appointed. These recent developments ensure enhanced quality of the papers published. Naturally, regular features such as the popular "Golden Oldies" section will be continued. Textbook News It's easy to get review copies of Springer textbooks! Some are even available for immediate download. Just go to springer.com/instructors to learn more! Second Edition of a Key Acoustics Textbook! The Science and Applications of Acoustics Daniel R. Raichel This new edition treats the broad range of modern acoustics from the basics of wave propagation in solids and fluids to applications such as noise control and cancellation, underwater acoustics, music and music synthesis, sonoluminescence, and medical diagnostics with ultrasound. Updates are provided on the use of ultrasound in industry, and deeper coverage is provided on medical uses of ultrasound. The chapter on music and musical instruments has been broken up into two chapters, one chapter covering music and musical instruments and the other covering sound reproduction and including the latest devices such MP3®; iPod®; 5.1-, 6.1-, and 7.1-channel systems; and THX® and Iosono® theater systems. Additional coverage of the opto-acoustics and sonoluminescence phenomena is included. New problems have been added throughout. Physics of the Human Body Irving P. Herman Part of the Biological and Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering Series The goal of this text is to understand physical issues concerning the human body, in part by developing and then using simple and subsequently more refined models of the macrophysics of the human body. Topics include the mechanics of the static body and the body in motion, the materials properties of the body, muscles, the energetics of body metabolism, fluid flow in the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, the acoustics of sound waves in speaking and hearing, the optics of the eye and vision, the electrical properties of the body, and the basic engineering principles of feedback and control in regulating all aspects of function. Other Books Spectral Methods: Fundamentals in Single Domains C. Canuto, M. Y. Hussaini, A. Quarteroni, T. A. Zang Canuto et al. now incorporate the many improvements in the algorithms and the theory of spectral methods that have been made since 1988. The initial treatment Fundamentals in Single Domains discusses the fundamentals of the approximation of solutions to ordinary and partial differential equations on single domains by expansions in smooth, global basis functions. The Frontiers Collection Because the Best View is Without Limits The scientific endeavor is all about discovering and understanding new and exciting facets of the world we live in. Although much of today's science has become fairly routine and is driven largely by technological and commercial forces, there is stillâand will always remainâa plethora of unanswered questions at the edges of the realm which we claim to understand. It is to these exciting 'Frontier' topics (and also their philosophical implications) that this new book series is dedicated. Click here for more information. New Book in the Frontiers Collection: Weak Links Weak Links: Stabilizers of Complex Systems from Proteins to Social Networks Peter Csermely Weak links, which are invisible in many networks, are crucial for our own stability and the stability of the world. A weak link can be a casual acquaintance as opposed to a close friend; local decisions made by the "worker" bee independently of the queen in the hive; the stabilizing effect of women in crises as they seek out social support instead of displaying "masculine" hostility; or trustful and cooperative working relationships in a company, which may achieve more than strong management. The book, a best-seller in Hungary, shows convincingly that, despite its overwhelming complexity, the modern world can be understood by using the simple logic of networks. Carefully balancing scientific analysis with popular science, the author introduces several viewpoints, often playfully, and invites the reader to take part in the formulation of scientific ideas. Smilies and other symbols identify hypotheses, additional information, and questions, enabling readers to select their preferred level of sophistication. Spite, a fictitious high-school student, accompanies the author on his journey to Net-land, the world of networks, criticizing and posing awkward questions as the journey progresses. But by the end of the book, Spite too has come to understand the important message. More... Whether you are an established researcher or a promising newcomer to Physics, we look forward to hearing from you. Please feel free to contact us with suggestion, comments, or questions. Dear Mr Farooque Shaheen: Thanks for your posting on the sharing of files through a website called <http:\\www.Peerfact.fr/send>. But I wanted to know whether this sharing would be safe and that there is any chance of data tampering. I browsed the website but its in some other language. Its useful one if and only data is secured and meant for the person it is intended to. NET Exemption
by Raj K Bhardwaj 31 May '06

Dear Members , From last twenty days we have received so many massages on UGC NET exemption for M.Phil,Phd students why you Library Professionals are taking it unstandardization of Education . You know level of research work in our country from last ten years are going down at very rapid pace because students intend to go to prepare for exam and they bye pass the reseach ,intellctual process of education . Exemption for M.Phil and Phd student is the only way to incease the research level. Think about research in scinece and other stream where a single idea if you generate and patent it can earn good reputation and money for country. So don't think exemption of NET for M.Phil and Phd student is decreasing our education standard. In my opinion We should impliment the NET Exam to get Admission in M.Phil and only after M.Phil students can enrollin Phd this should be the model . secondly if any one who cleared UGC _NEt in library science with old traditional syallabus how can teach new concept and technology application in Libraries to students . if UGC Net exam cleared person don't have good Communication skills how he/she can teach student ? I have seen so many students who cleared NET exam and could ' manage to get any Job in Private College .
