Prof. G. Bhattacharya
by M. Paul Pandian 29 Jun '06

29 Jun '06

Dear Friends, I was deeply saddened to hear the loss of Prof. G. Bhattacharya. Prof. GB as he was fondly called by all was one of the greatest teachers in the LIS area. His teaching of Study of Subjects will make any one regardless of his/her basic subject background a qualified librarian to handle any subject areas. The study of subjects provides a template wherein any subject can be mapped and analysed for better understanding of a particular subject by a non subject specialist like the librarian. Although Prof. GB is no more with us, his teachings and commitments towards achieving excellence in whatever he did will be remembered forever. Our deepest condolences to the beraved family and friends. May his soul rest in peace. Dr.M. Fw: [LIS-Forum] Whom does the corporate librarian report to
by librarymahad 29 Jun '06

29 Jun '06

Dear Professionals, I agreed with Ms. Deepa's view. I am also reporting to Head Admin a Lt. Col., who is not even knowing about the cataloguing system of library. I have to face a lot of silly questions regarding library which I don't expect from my Boss. One incident I am telling. Joining to my current organisation I have classified all the documents with DDC classification code. As a result the book which was in Cupboard-3 was being shifted to Cupboard -6. But my Reporting Boss told me that he wants to see the book in the same cupboard only. Please note that Last year I had sent the same for a discussion. I am having 15 years of experience with Industrial Library in three different Organisations. I have always felt that Most of the time the Boss which we get doesn't have interest on library. And at the time of Evaluation they don't even recognised us as technically educated. Please see Ms Deepa's view in the same way also, which I have highlighted.
