Sad demise of Prof.Pangannaya

I was shocked and felt sorry to learn that Prof. Pangannaya expired on 1-10-2006. He was an eminent librarian at Poornaprajna college when I was a student there (1967-69).He was my affectionate teacher in Univ.of mysore in 1971-72. Prof.Pangannaya was a teacher of par excellence, a good dramatist & yakshagana artist. He has efficiently managed his role in K.S.O.S. He was humane in nature and treated his students equally.Prof.Pangannaya's death is a great loss to our Profession. An office-bearer of the Madras Printers and Lithographers Association, the All India Federation of Master Printers, the Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India, the Federation of Indian Publishers, the Indian Geography Association, the Indian National Cartographic Association and the Public Relations Society of India (Tamil Nadu Chapter), he is also a Co-convener of INTACH Tamil Nadu Chapter. Awarded in March 2002, the MBE by the Queen of England for work on Heritage and Environment Conservation in Madras . Authored 18 books with historical backgrounds mainly on Madras . Mr. Muthiah works as an Information Consultant and freelance editor for various institutions and publishers through his editorial consultancy service, Madras Editorial Services. Since 1991, have edited Madras Musings , a city fortnightly concerned with the Citys heritage and environment. Dear All, To promote reading habits, I'm/ Faculty suggesting users (who are not using regularly)some interesting & good books/ Non book materials, asking them to write book/ chapter reviews & displaying them on our E-news letter, notice boards, Giving incentives to best users, doing surveys etc. Faculty too giving them assignments etc. But the results are not not upto the expectations. Springer signs cooperation agreement with Indian Academy of Sciences SpringerLink soon to include renowned Indian publications. Springer has signed a wide-ranging cooperation agreement with the prestigious Indian Academy of Sciences in Bangalore (IAS). From January 2007, Springer will publish, jointly with the IAS, their ten renowned journals and will provide access to their content worldwide in an online full-text database on SpringerLink, the publisher's electronic platform. Springer will also distribute the print version of the journals outside of India. The agreement follows Springer's moves in China, Russia and Central and Eastern Europe in 2005 to bring high-quality, non-Western scientific information to the global research community.
