open access and copyright concerns
by Subbiah Arunachalam 10 Jan '07

10 Jan '07

Friends: Here are two news stories from Peter Suber's "Open Access News". Another academic VP for FRPAA David S. Stern, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs of Hamline University, has added his signature to the SPARC list of U.S. university presidents and provosts endorsing open access to publicly-funded research and the Federal Research Public Access Act of 2006 (FRPAA). The tally is now up to 132. Permanent link to this post Posted by Peter Suber at 1/09/2007 02:50:29 PM. ----- eIFL on copyright and OA eIFL.net has released its Handbook on Copyright and Related Issues for Libraries under a CC license. One section is on Open Access to Scholarly Communications. ---- Please persuade your vice chancellor/ director/ dean, head of department to mandate OA archiving of all research papers by faculty and students. Please read the Handbook on Copyright and persuade publishing authors in your institution not to sign away all their rights to a journal publisher. Tell them they have a right to modify the copyright agreement form sent by the journal publisher. Best wishes.
