To, All Professional Colleagues, When I saw the advertisement of Monster on television, I find it extremely disturbing that a reputed job provider can do such nasty advertisement that to the highly regarded profession of LIBRARIANSHIP. They should chastise for this indecent act. Now days the information is so massive and Librarians are the people who manages it respective to diversified working sectors. Before showing the image of Librarian yawning and sleeping, they should have done survey and some research in highly reputed companies, organizations, Institutions and other various sectors to see how the librarians have to be on their toes to provide the right information at the right time from the gigantic information available, which helps the user fraternity to come out with excellent results to facilitate the profits and growth not only for the parent organization but also for individuals. In my opinion, a strong action is needed against such people. I would like to request, ILA, BOSLA and other Associations should take necessary action against Monster. And Most Importantly, Monster itself advertises for Librarians so please do a thorough check monster. Everyone from our field should banned Monster by withdrawing Job profiles and Resumes from their website. Regards, Sujata Bansode. A Simple Question
by Charu Mathur 09 Jul '08

Respected Friends, Its very good sign, that we all aware of this fact that some one has abused our profession, and like a true professional we have been duly condemning him. Every one has a long list of suggestion starting with so many *SHOULDs *, but the million dollar question is that who is going to kill the cat. Does this is not our responsibility to come forward, and take a strong and practical action against this humiliating act? We all know that to whom we should contact for necessary action, then, *what are we waiting for*? We have innumerable Library Associations who can do commendable job in this regard and can make a strong pressure to demoralize these activities. *Why not they are taking any initiative?* ** I sincerely request to my worthy colleagues, instead of verbal protest, we have to take some concrete and rock-hard action, so that no one can take as lightly in any manner. Regards Miss Charu Mathur -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

Dear Sir, With reference to my email about my question The question is 1. Where should be library building located? 2. Whether above the canteen or centrally located in a separate building considering points mentioned in the standard IS:1553? I am thankful to all my professional colleagues and greatful to everybody who have responded. I am also greatful to Dr. S.R. RANGANATHAN who has given us Indian Standards on different fields in library science. My management has taken care of the safety of Library & Information Centre which they wanted to build above the canteen as erlier decided. Now they are shifting the canteen from the existing place. Lis-forum has helped me in raising my voice and there is a change in the decision in CPRI. Thank you all once again . With regards (Smt. Dear Friends & Colleagues, "Librarianship" is a Life-Style, rather than being just a "job" that can earn us some money so that we can meet the ends for living! ......It is a "service" that requires dedication and continuous upgradation of our professional knowledge, skill and expertise.... so that we are ever competent to provide with the right information at the right time to the right person, irrespective of the nature of the organization we are serving, the nature of our clientele and their varied interest and need, nature of the information flow and information use.... And, all these actually are not a matter of joke! All these require accomplishment.... and, it is our own responsibility to change the general view of the society regarding our profession.... we cannot blame others, but ourselves, only ourselves......!! Are Intellectual Property Rights Laws holding back progress of science? Yes, argues John Sulston and Joseph Stiglitz in their letter to TIMES. [John Sulston, (Novel prize winner and Chair, Institute for Science, Ethics and Innovation, University of Manchester) along with Joseph Stiglitz (Chair, Brooks World Poverty Institute, University of Manchester) In a letter "Science is being held back by outdated laws" to TIMES <http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/letters/article4271555.ece>] They say, .."The ideal shared by almost all scientists is that science should be open and transparent, not just in its practices and procedures, but so that the results and the knowledge generated through research should be freely accessible to all. There is a broad consensus in the scientific community that such openness and transparency promotes the advancement of science and enhances the likelihood that the benefits of science are enjoyed by all. For more than a hundred years, these principles have been the bedrock of academia and the scientific community".. --Sukhdev Singh, NIC. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

Dear Friends, It is a new mobile device, the radius, designed mainly for reading books, magazines, news papers and mail, is the size of a standard cellphone. Flip it open, through, and a screen tucked within the housing opens to a 5-inch diagonal display. The screen looks just like a LCD but can bend so flexibly that it can wrap around a finger. The details of the article may be obtained from "Deccan Hearald" - Bangalore Edition on 09-07-2008. The same reported has been published by "Anne Eisenberg" in "The New York Times" recently.
