Dear Moderator: Kindly circulate the International Conference details in LIS-Forum Dear Professional Colleagues: International Conference on Emerging Digital Library Platforms: Shaping Digital Transformation and National Data Exchange While the COVID-19 pandemic shook the world, many lockdowns have not stopped the spirit from thriving and competing. India has witnessed a gradual spike in qualified IT personnel and library professionals, embracing remote work and cloud infrastructure as the mantle to their industry sustenance. Industries like the automotive industry, construction, finance, logistics, and leisure took a massive hit during steps taken to control the pandemic. Small and medium businesses were among the worst affected by the lockdowns and stringent measures to curb the spread of the virus. Healthcare found it challenging to meet the demands of a vast Indian population. Libraries worldwide face hard choices around which services to offer and how ranging from minimal restrictions to complete closure. We are aware that governments are taking different approaches, sometimes ordering the closure of all institutions, others indicating that life should continue as usual, and others simply leaving decisions up to library administrators. DRTC was established in 1962 as a constituent unit of the Indian Statistical Institute. On the invitation of Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis, Dr. S.R. Ranganathan (1892-1972) (then National Research Professor in Library Science) started DRTC in Bangalore. Since its inception, DRTC has been considered a pioneer in Library and Information Science. To make the mark on the Occasion of the 75th anniversary of Independence of India and 60th Anniversary Celebrations of the Documentation Research and Training Center, (1962-2022), Indian Statistical Institute, and the 130thAnniversary of Dr. S.R. The conference aims to deliberate on developments and innovations in library and information science. It is also aimed at adapting to the journey of libraries using traditional knowledge organizing and management systems and classic systems. Renowned International Experts will deliver keynotes, and lectures, give demonstrations, and interact with the delegates. To explore cutting-edge technologies and techniques from advanced areas such as Classification, Cataloguing, Information Retrieval, Semantic Web, and Data and Data Science. Metadata, Semantic Web, Linked Data, Data Exchange, Ontology & Knowledge Organization, Big Data, Open Source, Open Access, Digital Libraries Digitization and Digital Preservation Web-Based Library Services, social media. As a result, academic libraries are rethinking their strategies and services to meet the challenges of the digital world and the demands of the“ born digital” generation. Libraries, in particular, are confronting these challenges as the nature of scientific practice is being dramatically transformed by information technologies. *Themes * Papers are invited concerning theory, architectures, data models, tools, and services, infrastructures in and around Digital Library framework about the following topics (but not limited to): 1. [Invited Talk] Liaison Librarianship – Bridging the Gap? by Ms. Maha Kumaran, Librarian, University of Saskatchewan, Canada on Wednesday, 27th April, 2022, 3 PM
by TS Kumbar 27 Apr '22

27 Apr '22

Dear Fellow Professionals, The Library at IIT Gandhinagar cordially invites you to join us for the following talk on *Wednesday, 27th April, 2022, at 3 PM* to enrich ourselves with the experience of *Ms. Maha Kumaran* <https://library.usask.ca/people/maha-kumaran.php#About>, Librarian from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada in the field of Liaison Librarianship. *Title: **Liaison Librarianship – Bridging the Gap?* *Date (Day): *27.04.2022 (Wednesday) *Time: *3.00 PM *Register here: * https://iitgn-ac-in.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_jYHg4A5EQKaKbcBI4Fm-qQ *About the talk:* Liaison librarianship has been effective in building partnerships with faculty and students. It has successfully (in most cases) moved librarians away from service desks to integrate with all their users, especially collaborating at the faculty level. It also helped create a well-rounded librarian with in-depth knowledge and experiences in many aspects of their liaison areas – collections, acquisitions, instruction, and focused research and scholarship in liaison areas/subjects. However, this model also has limitations. As academic institutional landscapes demographics evolve, curriculums change, technologies and librarians’ roles expand, liaison librarianship may not meet all the needs of students, researchers, and faculty in higher education systems. Many academic libraries are moving away from liaison models to functional and division roles. This is exactly what Ms. Kumaran will reflect upon, with her rich experience in the field of liaison library, during the webinar. *About the Resource Person:* Maha Kumaran is a Liaison Librarian for the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Since joining the university in 2010, she has served in multiple liaison roles and as the head of the Education & Music Library. As a liaison and faculty librarian <https://library.usask.ca/people/maha-kumaran.php>, she focuses her efforts on information literacy instruction, scholarship, collections, and services – the last includes working with faculty and students, particularly collaborating with faculty on various research topics including equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). She is the author/co-editor <https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4643-865X> of three published books and many peer-reviewed articles. Kumaran has served as the EDI Visiting Program Officer <https://www.carl-abrc.ca/news/announcing-carls-visiting-program-officer-and…> for the Canadian Association of Research Libraries; serves as a member of the ARL Leadership & Career Development Program Task Force; and continues to promote EDI awareness <https://acrl.ala.org/acrlinsider/val-spotlight-series-practices-of-equity-s…> through all her work <https://www.arl.org/blog/arl-fall-forum-plants-seeds-for-change-in-talent-m…>. So we believe this would be a wonderful opportunity to learn how the library has been evolving through the years and we look forward to seeing you in large numbers. Thanks & Regards Kumbar -- T. S. DISSEMINATING MEDICAL LITERATURE AND KNOWLEDGE IN INDIA IN THE 1980s
by Francis Jayakanth 26 Apr '22

26 Apr '22

From: Subbiah Arunachalam <subbiah.arunachalam(a)gmail.com> Sent: 26 April 2022 11:43 Friends, Years ago (in the 1980s) a few doctors (physicians and surgeons) in Chennai did something remarkable. At a time when foreign exchange was scarce and libraries did not have enough funds to subscribe to even a few journals, this small group provided access to journal articles needed by practising doctors and medical researchers. To learn about their outstanding work (in their own words), please read the article "DISSEMINATING MEDICAL LITERATURE AND KNOWLEDGE IN INDIA IN THE 1980S: THE SMLRT STORY" by Krishnan Ganapathy; Arjun Rajagopalan; Gita Arjun; Seshadri Suresh; Krishnan Sriram [https://jmla.mlanet.org/ojs/jmla/article/view/1424] DOI: https://doi.org/10.5195/jmla.2022.1424 Arun.
