Call for proposals: Entrelib International
by Leili Seifi 27 Jul '22

27 Jul '22

Dear all *Entrepreneurship and Libraries Conference (Entrelib) 2022 <http://entrelib.org/international-2022/>* *will be free, fully virtual and be international in scope! This iteration of the Entrelib conference will explore **approaches libraries have undertaken to support social entrepreneurship. What can we learn from libraries’ engagement with social entrepreneurship from elsewhere? *Social entrepreneurship is a globally relevant issue that is not centered in the global north and/or western view of capitalism, lending itself to an international conference. This, along with social entrepreneurship as a significant way to bring about economic justice, is of particular interest to younger generations, who are our libraries’ (and world’s) future leaders and changemakers*. *Due to the diverse nature of social entrepreneurship, the conference committee is open to all perspectives on this topic. Happening *virtually* Nov. 1st & 2nd, 2022, Entrelib is open to the academic, public, and special library community, as well as entrepreneurial ecosystem partners. *Our international planning team, consisting of members from 8 different countries, invites proposals on the conference themes and session formats below. *Priority will be given to submissions that are of interest and value to multiple types of information professionals (public, special, academic, etc.). - Libraries supporting social entrepreneurship that contribute to UN Sustainability Goals <https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/> (actions to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity, etc.) - Libraries supporting globally-focused initiatives and projects - Libraries partnering with and contributing to diverse social entrepreneurship ecosystems - Exploring information about international markets within social entrepreneurship - Community specific social entrepreneurship: small-scale initiatives that serve the needs of specific geographies but addresses global challenges - Critical analysis of social entrepreneurship in libraries The planning team is accepting proposals for the following session formats: - Workshops (30 minutes) - Lighting Talks (7 minutes) *To read the full call for proposals, submit a proposal, and learn more about the conference, please visit **https://entrelib.org/ <https://entrelib.org/international-2022/elc-international-call-for-proposal…>* *.* Proposal submission deadline: August 31st, 2022 Successful proposals will be notified by early October 2022. *If you have any questions, *please contact the EntreLib Programming committee co-chairs Céline Gareau-Brennan (celine.gareau-brennan(a)ualberta.ca) or Mariah McGregor (mariah.mcgregor(a)northwestern.edu) Best, Leili Marketing sub-committee -- Regards, Leili Seifi, PhD Associate Professor Department of Knowledge & Information Science Faculty of Behavioral Science University of Birjand, Birjand, Iran Tel(Office): +98 56 31026855 https://cv.birjand.ac.ir/seifi/en -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

Through these 50 years, and even before, a lot of distinguished librarians paved the road through many ideas for projects and made achievements in MELA's history, which greatly impacted the present and will continue to shape MELA's future. In 1974, MELA members discussed the main top ideas for cooperative acquisitions and bibliographic control, then in 1979 and later, members looked at using new technologies for related projects and resources such as cataloging computerization and the Middle East Microform Project. In the second millennium, the MELA community utilized the new tools and technologies to preserve and enhance access to the Middle East resources through numerous web archiving, digital humanities, and open access projects. With social and political changes in the world and in the Middle East in particular, the MELA community worked together to secure access to resources in the area such as the Committee on Iraq, Endangered Archives, Archiving Arab Spring, and lately significant work done on the issues of social and racial justice and the impact of the pandemic. Through the last 50 years, MELA as an association has grown in various directions including a bigger and stronger community in all subfields of the Middle East librarianship, numerous projects, and affiliations and collaborations with other organizations and associations. The conference this year will reflect on MELA's accomplishments in the last 50 years, and look forward to ways to invest for the future.
