06 Aug '10

Dear Friends, I am very happy to note the response given to our call of “Run for the Library” with a caption: *"Journey Towards Book - March Towards Library"* Day by day as our preparations are in progress, we are getting very good encouragement from all sectors of the society. I am now happy to announce to all of you that when we approached to His Excellency *Shri Hans Raj Bhardwaj *The Governor of Karnataka to inaugurate the event on 12th August 2010, He happily agreed and suggested to start the March from Raj Bhavan itself. Hence there is a slite change in the venue of starting point i.e. instead of Gopalagouda Circle, The March will start from Raj Bhavan (Inside) at 8.45 am. All are requested to reach Raj Bhavan before 8.30 am and get organized in the Procession after wearing the T-Shirt and the Cap got prepared for the occasion. We have also invited literary giants, Academicians and Vice Chancellors to participate in the March and give a message to the society for improvement of reading habit. We have also invited all the Media Channels and News Paper Reporters to report the event to the public at large. I request all of you to participate in large number and make this event successful. Your support is our strength Thanks, -- Dr.P.V.Konnur President, IALA Fulbright Fellow (University of Illinois) University Librarian, Bangalore University Library, Jnanabharati, Bangalore-560056 Phone: 080-22961131, 23215510 Website: http://library.bub.ernet.in/ -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

INFLIBNET Awarded eINDIA 2010 - Jury Choice Award
by Rajesh Chandrakar 06 Aug '10

06 Aug '10

Dear Colleagues and Professionals, We are pleased to share the news that the INFLIBNET Centre was awarded "Jury Choice Award e-INDIA 2010" in the category "Digital Learning : ICT Enabled University/Higher Education Institute of the Year" for the Year 2010 for the project entitled "National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST)". Out of 464 nominations for awards in various categories, 444 nominations were selected. There were 20 nominations under the "Digital Learning through ICT in Higher Education Institute" for the year 2010. Background of the Project The project entitled "National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST)" is funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), under its National Mission on Education through ICT, and is being jointly executed by the INFLIBNET Centre and IIT Delhi. The project provides for i) cross-subscription to e-resources subscribed by the two Consortia, i.e. subscription to INDEST-AICTE resources for universities and UGC-INFONET resources for technical institutions; and ii) subscription to selected electronic journals and electronic books for colleges. While the IIT Delhi is responsible for activity listed at (i) above, the INFLIBNET Centre is responsible for extending access to e-resources to colleges. The Centre is also responsible for developing and deploying appropriate software tools and techniques for authenticating authorized users. Under the project, individuals (including students, researchers and faculty) from colleges and other beneficiary institutions have access to more than 2,100 electronic journals, 51,000 electronic books and a bibliographic database called MathSciNet through a proxy server installed at the INFLIBNET Centre. The authorized users from colleges can access e-resources and download articles required by them directly from the publisher's website once they are duly authenticated using technologies deployed for this purpose at the INFLIBNET Centre. Current Status The Project was formally launched by Honourable Union Minister of Human Resource Development Shri Kapil Sibal at New Delhi on 4th May 2010. As on August 5, 2010, a total number of 1296 colleges have registered themselves with the N-LIST programme including 783 colleges covered under the 12B and 2F Section of the UGC Act. Lon-in IDs and passwords for accessing e-resources have been sent to these 783 colleges after obtaining list of authorized users from them. Remaining colleges are being advised to join the initiative as N-LIST Associates. All e-resources subscribed for colleges under the N-LIST Programme are now accessible to these 783 colleges through the N-LIST Website at http://nlist.inflibnet.ac.in.
