Fwd: JAMA's new OA policy
by Subbiah Arunachalam 16 Dec '22

16 Dec '22

Friends, Please see https://twitter.com/RickyPo/status/1603350817783926785?s=20&t=da2uRu9CPFXWg… . "Beginning in 2023, *JAMA* and all of the journals in the JAMA Network will adopt a new policy that permits authors of original research investigations to deposit their accepted manuscript in a public repository of their choosing immediately on the day that the manuscript is published by the JAMA Network. The “accepted manuscript” is the fully peer-reviewed version of the manuscript that has been revised in response to review and is judged acceptable for publication; additional edits, refinements, and enhancements will still appear in the version of record that is published in the JAMA Network and to which the accepted manuscript that is deposited will link. This policy extends current JAMA Network policies that allow for repository deposition of manuscripts only after a period of embargo." With warm regards, Arun http://orcid.org/0000-0002-4398-4658 http://www.researcherid.com/rid/B-9925-2009 -- Arun http://orcid.org/0000-0002-4398-4658 http://www.researcherid.com/rid/B-9925-2009

RFID Workshop : Knowledge Series II : Karad (Maharashtra)
by Tushar Popat 16 Dec '22

16 Dec '22

Dear Librarians, Namaste from RapidRadio Solutions. We are pleased to announce *"RFID Workshop - Knowledge Series II"* - an initiative/effort from RapidRadio to share the knowledge of *RFID Technology & its Integration with LMS* with the community. The workshop sessions shall be conducted at different institutes across India between 30th Sept 2021 to 31st March 2023. Detailed list of institutes and respective workshop dates will be available on https://rapidradio.co.in/library/workshop/. Keep checking the same for updated workshops. *The upcoming RFID Workshop is at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad, Maharashtra on 28 October 2022.* RapidRadio along this journey of 15 long years have acquired more than 250 library clients across India & surrounding countries. We are thankful to the library fraternity for trusting this Indian RFID manufacturer and helping us to become one of the leading players in the RFID Automation market for libraries. Over these years we have seen that the decision to purchase RFID systems & executing the project, after the decision is made, has been one of the toughest jobs for the librarian & the institute as a whole. We strongly feel that librarians who have already implemented RFID in their libraries should come forward and share their experiences with fellow librarians on how they go about this difficult decision making process. We wish to facilitate and encourage such experience sharing during workshop sessions. The complete list of speakers will be available on the web page who would be speaking at different sessions. We welcome one and all from the Library fraternity to participate in this event through filling up the registration form. Fighting Insect borne diseases - Old books help
by Padmanabha Vyasamoorthy 15 Dec '22

15 Dec '22

Please read the extract given below. On first reading of only the extract, I thought that the smell emitted by old books is helpful in fighting insect borne diseases. Intriguing. Only after reading the story given by the link, I realised that invaluable scientific research data contained in OLD forgotten books are extremely useful!! This may be called jumping to conclusions! This also shows that Google is a lot more than just a search engine! As a librarian, Google Books is a fascinating area to explore!! ============ //Google Blog: Using new technology and old books to combat disease <https://blog.google/technology/research/using-new-technology-and-old-books-…>. "Hundreds of millions of people are affected by insect-borne diseases every year, and climate change is only making the problem worse. Increases in temperature and rainfall have expanded the range of insects, including ticks and mosquitos, contributing to outbreaks of diseases such as dengue fever, lyme disease and malaria. Where can humanity find answers to the newest challenges? One idea: old books."// Dr P Vyasamoorthy / 9490804278 -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

by Sathyanarayana NV 15 Dec '22

15 Dec '22

Dear Members of LIS-Forum "Case-studies on Innovations in Libraries" has been an attention-grabbing event of LTC, leading to the Informatics Innovation Award. The 7th LTC 2023 – Library Technology Conclave<https://www.ltc2023.org/> has been receiving nominations. The last date for receiving the nominations is January 10, 2023, less than a month away. Please use this opportunity to showcase innovations in your libraries in this session by filing your nomination online at Informatics Innovation Award – LTC 2023<https://www.ltc2023.org/informatics-innovation-award/>. Innovations need not be big involving expensive technologies. Any simple ideas, techniques or developments which are unique in their context and method of implementation that are found useful by users or have helped in the library's administrative and management process are welcome for nomination. Here is a simple example of an innovation in "creative branding" of a school library presented in the famous TED Talk, a 12-minute video -- https://youtu.be/YsA_JTeHJ6A. I am sure there are many such innovations in Indian Libraries that need to be brought to the fore. LTC's 90-minutes session - "Case-studies on Innovation in Libraries" is a serious attempt in this direction to encourage innovation in libraries. Join the team of innovative libraries. Register for LTC2023 today which is hosted this year by the Ashoka University, Delhi-NCR.
