UGC-JRF grants-some doubts

Dear colleagues I went to Kerala University UGC-JRF-grants section to enquire about full time research in LIS.I told the section clerk that i wish to join for full time research by availing 3 year leave without allowance .As i am a permanent employee now in MG university ,i need to take leave without allowance for doing full time research.The section clerk told me that i can register as a full time research scholar,but cannot avail JRF grants from UGC.He opines that grants are only meant for the unemployed,and none was given fellowship in Kerala university who availed leave without allowance or none did full time research after getting leave without allowance..He further said that if i want to get grants under JRF scheme ,i should go to UGC and obtain permission to avail JRF grants.He advised me to go through UGC X1 five year plan document to get more information regarding this!!! i wish to get advice from LIS-FORUM members 1)is there any norms from UGC prohibiting in availing JRF grants(full time research) for employed persons even if they took leave without allowance from their current service? i expect a speedy reply Jasimudeen.s Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam Kerala -- Jasimudeen.s *Life is like a document:what matter is how good it is ,not how long it is"* * * *"Be in touch,I am just a mail away not a mile away"..* -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

Dear friends What actually happened at CUSAT UGC-NET exam centre for LIS is clear now.The exam Co-ordinator of that centre revealed the incidents occured to some media persons in Kerala.The centre has not received question paper for LIS in time.He says that, may be it is because of the leave days before the christmas holidays.They got initimation from UGC to take photocopies of questions of LIS to distribute to candidates.They did it.thats all.see the malayalam newspaper story in this regard: http://www.madhyamam.com/epaper/epapermain.php?view=thumb&page=12&mode=sing… NB: dont ask CUSAT authorities the following questions.They wont answer to that questions. :) 1)when they took photocopies of LIS second and third paper. 2)when they found that question paper bundle for LIS alone lacks 3) when they informed UGC that LIS question paper bundle not received 4)when intimation from UGC received to CUSAT authorities to take photocopies of question papers 5)afterall,why only for LIS ,this photocopy-bundle missing happened. I agree to mithun's opinion in this regard who wrote exam in that centre that an investigation should be done in this matter. Know how you fared in NET, instantly

*Good News for ALL LIS Professionals* Students appearing for the National Eligibility Test (NET), 2012 will be able to evaluate their performance immediately after appearing for the much-simplified test. The University Grants Commission (UGC), which conducts the test for around 2.5 lakh students twice a year, on Thursday decided that candidates can take carbon prints of their optical reader answer sheets with them. This will enable students to know instantly how they have fared in the test, said UGC chairperson Ved Prakash. In another decision, the UGC has decided that all the question papers for the test will be objective type. Till now, two papers were objective and the third one subjective. This has led to delay in declaration of the results, sometimes forcing students to appear again. Students had earlier expressed their unhappiness over evaluation in the subjective type paper. Now, we will be able to declare the results much before next NET and to the satisfaction of students, Prakash said. The format will be applicable for the June 2012 exam and results will be announced by October before the next exam in December 2012. Suspected Leak of UGC -NET Question Paper -Dec 2011

Dear friends, I wrote UGC-NET exam, Dec 2011 in LIS at Vidyadhiraja Vidya Bhavan, Aluva, Kerala conducted under Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). We were shocked to find that question booklets for Paper 2 and Paper 3 were duplicates of an original booklet. Instead of the coloured normal seal it beared a plain white sticker. So the seriel no of the booklet was same for all the candiates in LIS who wrote exam at this centre. The booklets of Paper 1 (General) and Paper 2 and 3 for other subjects were not faulty. When canditates raised objection, we were told to finish the exam and register a complaint afterwards. Candidates have given a written complaint to the UGC NET exam co-ordinator of CUSAT. A copy will be sent to UGC also. Some Malayalam channels reported the incident. The unverified information we got from different sources tell CUSAT does not recieved question booklets from UGC on time. Later on a copy was faxed from UGC to CUSAT and they photocopied the entire thing. If this is true, the questions of an important national exam were exposed to different people much before the exam. If CUSAT did not recieved the original booklets from UGC, then where it went missing? An inquiry should be made immedietly into this matter and the exam should be cancelled. On behalf of candidates who wrote exam at CUSAT centre, I register strong protest aganist the mismanagement of UGC NET -2011 and making a mockery of the candidates who wrote the exam all over India. -- Mithun Raj M.
