Today will be a sad day as far as all library professionals and library loving people not only in India but also rest of the world. He did remarkable contributions by way of excellent teaching, research, publications and professional leadership. Such personalities are rare in any generations. Another Sad News

A.K.Dasgupta, veteran librarian, passed away after a brief illness at Hyderabad. He was 86. After superannuating from the Administrative Staff College of India, he designed and developed Research and Reference Division for the Eeendu/ETV Media Group. Apart from being an illustrious librarian, as a free lance writer and columnist, he contributed to news papers and magazines on matters of contemporary interest. Well known work: A.K. Dasgupta,An Essay in Personal Bibliography: A Bibliography of Writings on and by S.R. Ranganathan (Bombay: Asia, 1967). 405 p. Though confined to home, he was active and doing well all these years. Hospitalized with pneumonia, he was on life support system for a while, before the end came in at 9 pm on Monday. Prior to cremation on Tuesday morning, his eyes were donated to L.V. Prasad Eye Institute. His wife, Ashoka Dasgupta, also a librarian, pre-deceased him. The Dasguptas did not have children. Two of his nephews (one from Pune, and the other from Kolkata) took care of the situation at the end. dear friends I am sorry to communicate that Prof AK Dasgupta, Hyderabad, who was earlier in EENADU had expired last evening after long illness. Today morning he had been cremated. Prof Dasgupta is well known for his contribution in the field of LIS. He is fine human and friendly in nature.
