Workshop outline The workshop is intended to enable the participants - To familiarize with the different digital sources of information To develop the skills to write a well structured journal article To cite references, avoid plagiarism and increase academic visibility and be updated in one's discipline Date: October 24-25, 2014 Organised by the Kerala State Higher Education Council Venue : Regional Telecom Training Centre (RTTC), Thiuvananthapuram Scope The series of workshops are open to the Assistant Pro-fessors and Research Scholars belonging to the Uni-versities/Govt.! Aided colleges of Kerala who have less than five years of experience. Those who have at-tended the workshop in February 2014 will not be con-sidered for these workshops. The workshops will be based on disciplines (Social Sciences, Arts and Humani-ties Sciences, Commerce). The Workshop for the So-cial Sciences community will be organized first The Social Sciences Community is invited to register early and the maximum intake of participants for a batch is restricted to 60 and will purely be 011 first-come-first-served basis. Workshops for the other disciplines will be organized subsequently. Registration Procedure: Registration is free. Registration can be done: i) Online at our website: www.kerala.kshec.gov.in. Or ii) send the filled up registration forms to the address given below or iii) e-mail the scanned copy of the filled up form to heckeralaammail com. The registration is open till October 15th, 2014. The confirmation will be sent to the selected participants. Those who are interested in attending the subsequent workshops also can register now. IATLIS – Motiwale Best LIS Teacher Award 2014 B. IATLIS - Prof. S.P. Narang Research Promotion Award 2014 C. IATLIS - Prof. Jagindar Singh Ramdev Lifetime Achievement Award 2014 *A. Eligibility for IATLIS –** Motiwale **Best LIS Teacher Award* Executive Council Members of IATLIS are not eligible to be nominated for these awards. The nominee should have at least 10 years of teaching experience at the post-graduate level or 10 years professional experience at a senior level, and should be in service. A person can receive the award only once and one person can nominate only one LIS teacher / professional for each award at a time. *B. Eligibility criteria for IATLIS - Prof. S.P. Narang Research Promotion Award to be given every alternate year to an LIS Teacher* The teacher must be in-service in a UGC recognized university on a full-time basis and must have at least 10 years of teaching and research experience in Library and Information Science. The recipient LIS teacher/researcher will be given a citation and a memento/shawl at the Annual IATLIS Conference. The nominations will be considered by an Awards Committee constituted by the IATLIS Executive Committee. An award will not be given in case majority of the Committee Members feel that no one has been found suitable for that award. Self-nominations will not be considered. The nominee should be a member of the IATLIS. Friends: What can public libraries do? Indeed a great deal. Here is a whole list of over 600 individuals (and some teams) articulating what they would want libraries to do. In fact, in a way, it is the idea of crowdsourcing citizen science projects have used to advance science. Look at projects like Polymath, Galaxy Zoo, Foldit, and several others. In India, we have the OSDD (Open Source Drug Discovery) project (initiated by Prof. Samir Brahmachari, former Director General of CSIR). I would like to see professional associations in India (ILA, IASLIC, SIS, SLA-India, etc.) pay attention to such activities. Masters level courses in LIS should sensitize students to such issues.
