INVITATION FOR PARTICIPATION: TWO WEEK FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME Dear Sir/Madam, Greetings from Ramanujan College! We inform you with great pleasure that the Teaching Learning Centre, Ramanujan College in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre For the Arts (IGNCA) is organizing a Two-week Faculty Development Programme on "Information Technology Applications in Library and Information Sciences", under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teachers) Sponsored Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) of Ramanujan College, University of Delhi. The FDP is scheduled to be held from 09 October - 20 October 2019 in the IGNCA premises. Faculty members (regular/adhoc/temporary) involved in teaching at under-graduate and post graduate level in various colleges, Central Universities, State Universities and UGC Accredited Private Universities, and library professionals, librarians are eligible to apply. Accommodation will be provided on sharing basis to outstation participants. The travel expenses of AC-2 Tier Railway Fare by shortest route for to and fro travel will be reimbursed. A nominal amount as 'Registration Fee' of Rs. 1500 (without accommodation) and Rs. 4000 (with accommodation including food expenses) will be charged. Library (Delhi & Chennai) <http://library.iihs.co.in/> These internships will involve assisting library operations and services, mainly user and research services, instruction and outreach, acquisition and technical processing of learning resources being acquired for the library. Coordinating with the library team, the interns require a working knowledge of Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC) standard, Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and exposure to open source or proprietary library automation systems, preferably Koha Library Management System, though not mandatory. A degree in any relevant stream will be desirable. There are two internship positions, one based in Delhi and one in Chennai. Dear Mr. Raghavendra, The banning of books and other literary works is not new in India, many books, literary works, and movies have been banned in the country including in British India. The section 95 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, sections 292, 293 and 294 of IPC have been enacted with the ulterior motive to protect and safeguard the public moral by making the sale, etc., of obscene literature and publications in general, and to young persons in particular, a cognizable offense. I had recently come across a banned book event hosted by Marriott Library, in the USA, where the event was focused on censored books that have been taken out of schools or libraries. Typically, a book is banned because a reader finds its materials to be against their views or beliefs, and requests a librarian to remove it from the library system.
