Friends: The Dutch are indeed very progressive when it comes to sharing knowledge. The Dutch universities are doing well in terms of making available their refereed research papers through archives. Now they have come up with a repository for theses and dissertations, and on the day the repository was announced it already had 10,000 theses! This is an area we in India and other countries in the South could (shamelessly) imitate the Netherlands! Arun >From Peter Suber's blog "Open Access News" Dutch ETD repository launched The Dutch DARE project has launched Promise of Science, an an OA repository called for electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) in the Netherlands. Promise of Science covers all Dutch universities and on launch day (yesterday) already contained 10,000 Dutch ETDs. The site supports searching by keyword, author, institution, or year. Workshop on Digital Libraries, New Delhi 31 October ? 3 November 2006 The Workshop on Digital Libraries is being organized by TERI with support from Technology Information Facilitation Programme of Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India. The aim of the Workshop is to equip participants with adequate practical knowledge so as to enable them to efficiently carry out digital library projects using open-source software. The workshop will be held at TERI, IHC Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. Users will initially be able to access information overlays from the U.S. National Park Service, Discovery Networks, the United Nations Environmental Program, the Jane Goodall Institute and Turn Here, an online city guide service. Users can access the new features by clicking on the "Featured Content" check box in the Google Earth sidebar after downloading and installing the free Google Earth application. Dear Professional colleagues and friends, I am very sad to inform you about the sudden and sad demise of our beloved friend Dr. R. Srinivasan, Officer-in-charge, Library, Central Electro Chemical Research Institute, Kariakudi yesterday evening at Madurai. The funeral ceremony will take place at Karaikudi, to-day at 12 noon. Dr. Srinivasan did his PG degree in Econometrics, Library Science at Madurai Kamaraj University. He also did DRTC course at Bangalore. He was awarded Ph.D from Annamalai UNivesity in 2004. An expert in the field of Scientometrics, Bibliometrics, Technical Writing, etc, he contributed many articles in National and International journals . He did a few projects for DST. He is a simple and a good person. He used to help others always. He helped many people both professionally and personally. He is a founded member of SALIS and delivered many lecturers I pray the Almighty to give strength and courage to his family members to bear the great loss. His daughter is in Eleventh Standard and his son just joined M.B.B.S. We convey our condolence to his wife and his children.
