This survey has been adapted from the DRIVER Inventory study into the present type and level of OAI-compliant digital repository activities in the EU by Maurits de Graaf and SURF, and from the European repository study by Alma Swan, Key Perspectives Ltd. The results of this survey will be made available online via a wiki. All participants in this study will receive an invitation to look at and comment on the results of this inventory for their own country. This is the first time that such data will be collected about digital repository activity in developing and transition countries, and we hope this will serve as important resource for promoting open access and repository development in these regions. We look forward to your cooperation. We encourage all repository managers in developing and transition countries to participate. INFLIBNET Centre being a gateway of the Academic Community of the Country has created various databases of the library resources for helping academic user community such as research scholars, faculty members, students etc. since 1992. Experts database, one of the important databases, contains the profile of subject experts / faculty members working at universities, Deemed universities, IITs, Medical institutions, Research and Development Centres across the Country. INFLIBNET has been maintaining and updating this database for last five years and making continuous efforts to collect the profile of remaining faculty members including updation of existing profiles time to time. 2009 Emerald Research Fund Awards Indian LIS category Call for Indian library and information science research proposals Sustaining the dissemination of knowledge in India by supporting LIS research Emerald is proud to announce it is offering a funding grant for a research project that will contribute to the development of LIS research in India. The funding grant of up to £2,000 (approx. US$3,000 equivalent) should address the dissemination of knowledge for the social good with a specific focus towards the benefit of India. In addition to the research grant, the winner will have the opportunity to receive the assistance of an experienced Emerald editor, or former editor, to help them write a high quality article and increase chances of publication. Eligibility The lead member of the research team should be based in India. Judging criteria Each application will be judged, by a panel of experts, on the five criteria below. The research must: * Be of significance, particularly illustrating how it will benefit the social good. * Demonstrate originality and innovation. * Make an outstanding contribution to theory and its application. * Illustrate the appropriateness and application of the methodology. * Demonstrate sound implications for theory and practice. Dear Professionals, please gothrough this press release..... on Hindu(28.05.09) *M.Phil. holders will have to clear NET to become lecturers * ** Staff Reporter NEW DELHI: The National Eligibility Test (NET) is all set to return as the basic eligibility criterion for recruitment and appointment of lecturers in colleges and universities. “The NET/State Level Eligibility Test will remain the minimum eligibility condition for appointment of lecturers. M.Phil. degree holders will not be exempted from the NET. Ph.D. holders remain exempted but only with a condition. Candidates who have done their Ph.D. in compliance with the UGC guidelines, will get exemption from clearing NET/SLET for appointment as lecturers,” University Grants Commission chairman Sukhadeo Thorat told journalists on Wednesday. However, wherever there are departures from the UGC guidelines, Ph.D. holders will also have to pass NET to become lecturers. Regulations The latest regulation on minimum qualifications for appointment of teachers — based on the final report of the Bhalchandra Mungekar Committee — will be applicable with effect from the date of its publication in the Gazette of India. It is aimed at improving the quality of research in the country. Interestingly, in its interim report the committee had recommended that M. Phil. and Ph. D. holders should be exempted from the NET for appointment as teachers. The new regulation will apply to every university established under a Central Act, Provincial Act or a State Act, every institution recognised by the UGC and deemed to be universities. Those who are already employed on the basis of M.Phil./Ph.D. will not be covered under these regulations as they joined service before this notification. An expert committee will be set up to study and exempt the universities that follow UGC’s new regulations for M.Phil. and Ph.D. Besides, universities will annually decide a pre-determined and manageable number of M.Phil. and Ph.D. students. A supervisor will not have, at any given time, more than eight Ph. D. scholars and five M. Phil. students. The number of seats for M.
