Dear Colleagues, Kindly bring the following announcement to the notice of interested candidates and also request you to recommend potential candadates. ---------------------------------- Subject: Opening of Library Trainee positions at the Resource Centre, DA-IICT Gandhinagar, Gujarat The Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information & Communication Technology (DA-IICT) at Gandhinagar http://www.daiict.ac.in/ is looking for young, dynamic and fresh graduates with minimum First Class in Masters in Library and Information Science to work as 'Library Trainees' for its Resource Centre (Library). Duration of the Training is for a period of one year and selected trainees gets a fixed stipend of Rs. 8000/-per month with no other facilities/ benefits, excepting casual leave. Accomodation in students hostel on the campus on payment basis will be provided, subject to availability. The Resource Centre http://resourcecentre.daiict.ac.in/ has fully computerized in-house operations and services and provides access to wide variety of digital collection, catering to the needs of the Faculty, Staff and Students. Several new initiatives are being taken to make this library as one of the leading and resource libraries in the area of ICT in the country. It is a part of regional & national consortia and actively participates in the resource sharing activities. The Resource Centre is kept open till mid night on all working days during the semester and is open on holidays, Saturdays and Sundays. Selected trainees will require to work during these extended hours on rotation basis alongwith other staff members. Nature of Traineeship: Traniees will be provided with an opportunity to work in different sections of the Resource Centre and learn the modern library management techniques and web based services.The Resource Centre provides a highly professional working & learning environment. The selected candidates will have ample of opportunities to work and learn on emerging IT tools and technologies. This will be a free plug-in to allow researchers to seamlessly deposit into as many open access repositories as they desire, using SWORD. This is not meant as a plug for Microsoft, as no doubt there will soon be many flavours of SWORD; this is just one illustration of how SWORD will soon make it very, very easy for researchers to deposit their own work for open access. So if publishers do not wish to take on the function of loading articles into open access repositories, this is a short-term problem. In the longer term, this could be more of a problem for the publishers themselves. That is, once researchers are not only doing the writing and peer reviewing the work of others, but also completing and disseminating themselves the version that is most accessible and hence most likely to be read, they might begin to wonder what is that publishers do, exactly. This would be a fine thing for scholarship, in my opinion. All, We are looking to implement Koha at few medium to large libraries as a technology show case or case study. We will do such implementations at no cost to the library. Currently we are offering this for one library at Bangalore only. The library must: * have more than 1 lac items * must be willing to move all processes - circulation, cataloging, serials, reporting and acquisitions to Koha * be willing to commit resources to complete the implementation quickly * be willing to commit resources to host and maintain the installation for a period of 3 years * be willing to develop detailed customization specifications * have existing server hardware or willing to invest in it * host koha on a publicly available ip We will prefer to do this for public or non-profit libraries or those that can demonstrate paucity of funds.
