Dear fiends, Subscription of online electronic journals is always spelled out with license agreements with publishers. The licenses for electronic resources impose two types of restrictions on its usage, namely i) who can use these resources; and ii) how the resources can be used. The first restriction defines authorized users for e-resources, which generally includes students, faculty, staff and onsite visitors of a subscribing institution. The second restriction deals with how these resources can be used. It should use for personal, educational and research purposes only. Systematic downloading or printing of entire journal issues or volumes, or large portions of other e-resources are prohibited by the publisher. As they are playing with research outputs done around the world but the originality to them are commercial publishers. They did not want to use their resources commercially by the other person or organisation. .They have registered to their products under the copyright laws that mean not to use by any commercial purposes. Why we should make systematic downloads? Could we read all the documents at a time? The answer is obviously “No”. So, It is the responsibility of individual users to ensure that e-resources are used for personal, educational and research purposes only. Sir, This is in connection with the above issue. I observe that many librarians have expressed helplessness concerning the agencies which fail to deliver the issues in spite of being paid the subscription in advance. One way to overcome this problem is to sign an agreement on 100 rupee stamp paper beforehand which would contain the terms and conditions of the transaction. The agreement can include a clause about the non-receipt of issues and the time frame within which the copies are to be received as well as refund of the subscription amount in case the missing issues are not available after specified date. The agreement should further specify that in case of dispute, the matter will be resolved legally in whichever state the library is located. This agreement will be jointly signed by the librarian (on behalf of the library) and the vendor. The vendor should also produce a witness who would sign the agreement in addition to him. The agreement safeguards the interests of the library since it's a legal document. Dear Vijaya Kumar, An informal aggreement called CONTU Gidelines has been worked and followed by Authors, Publishers and Librarians in order to resolve *Systematic Reproduction* clause of US Copyright Act section 108 (g): 1. CONTU Guidelines for copying from periodicals apply only to materials less than five years old (referred to as part of the "rule of five"). 2. Up to five articles may be copied from a single periodical in one calendar year under the ILL provision (referred to as part of the "rule of five"). 3. A library with a subscription for a periodical which is not immediately available may consider a copy obtained from another library as if made from its own collection. 4. All ILL requests must be accompanied by a copyright compliance statement from the requesting library. The requesting library must maintain records of all requests and of their fulfillment. These records must be kept for three calendar years after the request has been made. 5. No more than six copies of articles/chapters/small portions may be made from a non-periodical (including a book) during the entire term of copyright of the work. 6.
