How do I increase the usage of e-books?

Dear All, I am facing a problem and need a solution for all you experienced folks. What do I do to increase the usage of eBooks in the onsite locations for employees who are posted/ live abroad and have no access to the library. Has anyone faced this problem of decreased/ no usage - and how did you handle it? Please advise. FUNDERS PUNISH OPEN-ACCESS DODGERS For years, two of the world's largest research funders - the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Wellcome Trust in the United Kingdom - have issued a steady stream of incentives to coax academics to abide by their open-access policies. Now they are done with just dangling carrots. Both institutions are bringing out the sticks: cautiously and discreetly cracking down on researchers who do not make their papers publicly available. Neither agency would name those who have been sanctioned. But the London-based Wellcome Trust says that it has withheld grant payments on 63 occasions in the past year because papers resulting from the funding were not open access. And the NIH, in Bethesda, Maryland, says that it has delayed some continuing grant awards since July 2013 because of non-compliance with open-access policies, although the agency does not know the exact numbers. Professional institutions such as IEEE blacklist the authors who plagiarise their publications endangering their career. Moreover, it is now easier to detect plagiarism, autonomously. Therefore, it is vital for students, authors and their institutions to take specific measures to avoid plagiarism. The rise of plagiarism in this digital era is primarily due to lack of awareness of what is considered as plagiarism, how it can get into a publication, the risks it presents and methods of avoiding it. This one-day workshop is intended to create the desired awareness among the stakeholder about plagiarism and outline measures to prevent it and, thereby, to help them safeguard from the plagiarism risks. About the Program ============== The workshop comprises of two major sessions. The morning session will present an overview on plagiarism, outlines major issues and risks in plagiarism, and suggest (institutional) measures combat this seemingly growing problem facing researchers, authors, educational institutions and conference organisers. Need help for IRB survey

Dear Library Professionals, I under the guidance of my mentor, Charles Greenberg are conducting a survey on the involvement of librarian in protection of human research subjects. This survey is for an IFLA paper that I am writing with him. The excerpts from the abstract are: As the scope of human subject research expands beyond traditional biomedical frontiers, the ability to apply vigilance to educate, inform, and protect humans of all ages strains the capacity of many institutions to apply a thorough and rigorous standard at all times. The most widely recognized mechanism to assess human protections in a research proposal is an institutional review board (IRB), also known as an independent ethics committee (IEC) or ethical review board, which are often mandated for institutions in some countries. This paper is based on an environmental scan of current librarian involvement in protection of human research subjects as part of a proposed research paper for IFLA 2014. If you know a librarian who has contact, please pass this message to those that either serve an IRB or IEC or other form of bioethics review group that is charged with protecting human research subjects.
