Respected Sir / Madam, INFLIBNET is organizing Three Days National Workshop on "Federated Identity and Access Management" during 15 – 17 October 2018. The INFLIBNET Access Management Federation (INFED) has adopted Shibboleth, a standards-based open source software, for authenticating authorized users from institutions and provide them seamless access to e-resources from anywhere, anytime. Shibboleth offers a mechanism for users to access multiple resources within a federated single sign-on framework. At the end of the workshop participants able to install OpenSSL certificates, Shibboleth Identity Provider installation, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) configuration and user management and able to access various e-resources via Shibboleth. The workshop includes lectures as well as intensive hands-on training, so as to provide both theoretical and practical skills to the participants. *Major Topics* The following major topics will be covered in the workshop # Basics of Linux # Introduction of INFED Federation # About Shibboleth IdP and SP workflow # Installation of OpenSSL certificates for the Domain server # Shibboleth IdP installation via custom ISO # LDAP configuration and User Management # Access various e-resources via Shibboleth *Resource Persons* Prominent experts from INFLIBNET Centre, working in the Software R&D area. *Target Participants* Library professionals, information scientists, system administrators, database managers, students and others working in universities/colleges/institutes who are interested in Shibboleth. A maximum of 25-30 candidates will be enrolled for the training programme on the First-Come-First-Serve basis. *Venue* The Workshop will be conducted at Information and Library Network Centre, An IUC of University Grants Commission, Infocity, Gandhinagar-382007, Gujarat, India *Fee* The registration fee is Rs. 3,540.00 (Rupees Three Thousand Five Hundred Forty only) per person without accommodation and Rs. 5,780.00 (Rupees Five Thousand Seven Hundred Eighty only) with accommodation which is inclusive of GST rates. Re. Sad Demise of Prof K S Deshapande - A kegendary personality It is extremely sad and shocking news! Prof. K. S. Deshpande was one the most sought after teachers in KUD during my student days. I distinctly remember, we used to skip other teachers' lectures to attend his talks. He was the architect of KUD Library and had rendered his knowledge to build and develop many academic libraries and LIS departments in the country. Prof. KSD was a very simple, down to earth, humble with an everlasting iconic smile on his face which clearly exhibited his great personality. He was one of those rare teachers whose English was impeccable and showed remarkable insight on many topics. The LIS profession in the country has lost one of the most admired Gurus! His life story is certainly inspirational and deserves to be a part of LIS curriculam. I pray almighty to give enough strength to his family members, relatives and friends to bear this irreplacable loss. May his soul rest in peace. University Grants Commission (Promotion of Academic Integrity and Prevention of Plagiarism in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2018

Dear Colleagues University Grants Commission (Promotion of Academic Integrity and Prevention of Plagiarism in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2018 has been notified in The Gazette of India in issue published on July 31, 2018. I was one of the Member of the UGC committee which has drafted these regulations. The draft was prepared under the chairmanship of Prof. V S Chauhan, Former UGC chairman. Other member includes Prof. R C Kuhad, VC,CUH, Director IIT Delhi, Prof. S. S. Chahal Former Vice Chancellor and DG ICMR etc. It indeed an honour as this is second time I have been associated with such UGC regulations. Initially in 2005-6, I was also associated in drafting regulations for electronic theses and dissertations. Shodhganga came into being as a result of these regulations. It took us two years in finalising plagiarism regulations as several drafts were discussed and revised on the basis of feedback from all stakeholders. India may be the first country to have such regulations. I met chairman of The Academic Integrity Association in USA in one of the conference. I ask for his opinion on initial draft. He appreciated it and he said wish we can have something similar in USA. But due to the difference in education system, it may not be possible to have such regulations in USA. These are the basic guiding principles and success of it depends on active involvement and cooperation of Higher Educational Institutions in avoiding plagiarism. Every HEIs have to prepare a draft policy based on these guidelines. Department level as well Institutional level Academic Integrity Panels have to be constituted. These regulations are having a very big role for libraries and library professionals. Clause 5 Awareness and training Program, Clause 6 Curbing Plagiarism, and clause 7 similarities checks are the areas where libraries can have very big role. Libraries should not miss this opportunities. Moreover Reference Management, citations and referencing are domain of libraries ; and librarians are trained in it. I organised the first National workshop on Plagiarism in JNU in 2012 and started organising plagiarism workshops. Now scenario has changed a lot everyday I see plagiarism awareness and training program organised in various academic and research libraries all over india. I receive at least 4-5 invite every month for talk from all over india, many of which I am not able to accept. It indicates interest and awareness in the field.So a beginning has been made. We need to strengthen it. In changing role of libraries and librarians , we can play an important role in enhancing research output, research data Management, and research assessment. Prof.K. S. Deshpande's contribution to the Library Science field was laudable. His vast knowledge of the field, thorough professionalism and service oriented nature (at the time of no computers and internet!) was extra ordinary! Especially, he quenched the thirst of the knowledge of the people of North Karnataka region i.e.. Karnataka University, Dharwar. He was a dedicated professional and a role model to younger generation. His demise is a great loss to the profession. Let his soul rest in peace. Dear Professionals, I feel very much pained to convey the bad news that Prof. K.S.Deshpande, the most valued professional of our country is no more. I am given this news a couple of minutes ago and with immense grief I am sending the mail for the professional forum. Prof. Deshpande retired as University Librarian and also one of the most valued teacher of Karnatak University, Dharwad. The library science course at KUD was started with his initiative, along with his colleague Prof. M.R.Kumbhar and the Department has been one of the most adorable Alumni for thousands of LIS professionals spread around the world. I feel highly fortunate being his one of the beloved student of the department. Prof. Deshpande known for his eloquent oratory and scholarly knowledge of Library management. Due to his excellent organisational acumen he served also at University of Mysore, Bangalore University, Gulbarga University and University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad as University Librarian. He was also instrumental in starting the Department of Library Science at University of Mysore. He was a State Awardee and also the Karnatak University honoured him with Honorary Doctorate Degree It is impossible to record all his professional and other societal activities here. I am deeply pained at the news, but for the wish of the Almighty and who can give his family a strength bear this great loss.
