Raghavan DRTC The Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust is looking for information professionals meeting the following requirements: Name of the position: Librarian for Knowledge Management Center Reference ID: HLFPPT/APRIL-08/KMC TSD Name of the Company: Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust Location: Knowledge Management Center, (KMC) Noida Office Timings: 9.30 am to 6.30 pm (Monday to Friday). Division: Technical Services Division (TSD) HLFPPT Remuneration: The gross salary package in the scale of pay will be in the range of INR 3 to 4 lakh per annum. Two year contractual and will be renewed on the basis of annual performance. Qualification: Bachelor/ Masters in degree in library science with additional Certificate course on Managing information in digital age, training on library software like Greenstone, D Space, LIBSYS and Knowledge Management. Diploma in computer programme and computer skills on DTP, Carol draw, Photoshop, page maker is desirable Experience: Minimum 5 years experience as Librarian & Knowledge Management in recognized institutes. He/She should be familiarity with developing and delivering knowledge sharing programme and establishing effective partnerships within and outside the learning centers and resource centers. Functional Area: Managing resource, update website & intranet, knowledge management · Key responsibilities include: 1. Identify and collection of resources, update the resource in the master list 2. Promote knowledge sharing by using innovation and new IT technologies. 3. Strengthening links between knowledge sharing and the information systems, and improving integration among information systems in the organization 4. He/She maintain the central repository of all communication (IEC/BCC) materials, proposals, reports from the organization. 5. Document the project, divisional information and reports Languages: English compulsory, other regional language like Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Bengali is desirable. So a person must have reading habits in this information age. Now the question is how to develop them? A single person or organisation cannot develop reading habits in modern multimedia society where new media is distracting the reader from reading materials. Parents , teachers and librarians have to play a great role in creating a reading society. As a librarian you can attract users towards reading by displaying book jackets of new books/the new issues of periodicals, providing SDI services, circulating contents of new issues, motivating the authorities for celeberating World Book Day, Library Week, Librarian's Day, and organising the Book exhibitions. Book talk, Quiz competitions and the like. It is matter of regret that in academic institutions of India emphasis is given on passing the examinations, not on promoting the lifelong reading habits. That is why our biggest population struggles in every field for survival and leading in the none as compared to other developing countries. Reading habits of Students

Hi ; To best showcase your Jpurnals and to promote reading habits in users one must always go out to them and not expect them to come to you. first suggestion would be to find out what chapters of books or course is taught and display those books ot make detailed chapter wise bibliographies and put it up on the Library Notice boards.. Second go out to the teachers and students and interact with them ask if they have got all the material they want to study. Have them see the recent magazines and books. Slowly and steadily introduce them to what you have in Library Start a Book Awareness Club where the top ten books recieved in that week/ month are talked about or written. Ensure magazine articles are displayed for all to see. If they do not come to the Library Put it in a place they can see. For BE courses your interaction with the teachers and showing them what is availbale will improve the reading habits of students ie. awareness of what is availble in their Libraries. As they depend on teachers references a lot. Thirdly we all have to make the maximum effort to break this barrier in the initial stages only later on word of mounth from batch to batch will automatically advertise your collection. Last but not the least we have to accept that they have made their own arrangements either from Friends and Book-stores and have organised their reading materials themselves.
