Dear Professional friends, The UGC is now a step closure to issue the fitment tables along with the UGC Notification on Measures for Maintenance of Sandards-2009. The Regional Consultative Committee of UGC held it's final meeting on 3rd June 2009 at Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi. It was attended, like in other regions, by the Vice Chancelors, Principals and Associations of Teachers, Librarians and Physical Education Personnel of the Northern Region. The Indian Academic Library Association(IALA) was represented by a delegation under the leadership of Dr.Abidi Deputy Librarian, Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi and IALA Vice President (north) along with Dr.Saleem Anwar Deputy Librarian University of Delhi and other professional Librarians of Delhi region. IALA had prepares a descriptive representation including the claims for modifications to be made for achieving total parity with teachers in the HRD Orders. The Chairman RCC appreciated the efforts made by IALA in all the regional meetings also. IALA has also claimed for including the Information Scientists post par with Assistant Librarian Posts and to include in the same seniority for promotions and other benefits. The committee was quite sympathetic to the demands and agreed to recommend as many suggestions as were under the ambit of the directives of MHRD and stated that other demands will also be included as its suggestions separately. Koha & English to Indic Transliteration

All, A easy to use tool to "transliterate" from English to Indic languages is available with koha. One can type in English and convert the words and phrases into five Indian languages: Hindi Kannada Tamil Malyalam Telegu This makes finding records cataloged in Indian languages easier. You can view this feature at the Delhi Public Library website: http://delhipubliclibrary.in/ To turn on the feature, press "ctrl+g". Type a word in english and press space to transliterate. Select the destination language from the drop down list. Some examples of transliteration: Dilli ---> दिल्ली Hamesha --> हमेशा Trivandrum --> തൃവണ്ട്രും Bangalore --> ಬ್ಯಾಂಗಲೋರ್ Telugu --> తెలుగు Tamil --> தமிழ் I want to thank Mr. Basaraj Talikoti at DPL for suggesting this enhancement. Respected Sir, I want to know that in a year how many books we can withdraw ? What is the ratio of it ? If such books is damaged, what is the policy of it ? If such books is stolen from library, what is the procedure ? We are taking 3 time more amount of original price of books in case of lost books by the students , is it right way ? Which matter is easy for taking stock ? I want to know the government policy of India regarding this matter. Also send your suggestions and guidelines. Please reply. Under the Copyright Act, 1957, using extracts from books, journals, magazines, periodicals, newspapers, works of authors such as fiction, non-fiction, generalist, translators, visual artists, photographers, composers, lyricists, works of publishers like educational material, information, entertainment in various areas activities like education, government, business, and private use and other secondary rights such as reprography and scanning, posting extracts of a published work on the website etc. – requires the prior permission and a license from the author and publisher whose copyrighted work is being used. The use of published work without permission is illegal act and is an infringement of the copyright of the owner. Indian Reprographic Rights Organisation is registered under section 33(3) of the Copyright Act of 1957. It is the sole licensing authority in India. Dear parinita, I think we can put the table of contents in the digital library. Think! otherwise how the user will come to know about the existing of related material in the library. One more suggestion is before scanning of books better to check in the websites from where we can get the table of contents easily.
