My Views on DDS Model Proposed by Dr. Barman

Dear Fellow Professionals, The intention of the model proposed by Dr. Barman to share the electronic resources through DDS may be good. It may help hundreds of libraries and their thousands of clients in obtaining the required information. But, when we look it from the perspective of the copyright, the model carries an enormous risk. Being knowledge managers, we the librarians are expected to educate others on the issues related to the copyright. We should not indulge in violation of this right. Dear Dr. Barman, I agree with Mr Deepak that idea of credit should be same for giver and receiver both. As far as copy right is concerned, we can make union catalogue without violating the copyright because making union catalogue or indexing & making bibliography of the documents do not fall under copyright. Systematic downloading and using for profit, definitely come under umbrella of copy right. Voluntarily sharing one or two articles form a journal to a needy person for study or research purpose should be encouraged, and I think it will not create problem. Also the price of the DDS considering that there is no postal expense, can be minimize for reasonable or closed down. Dear Friends I would like to share a common issue raised by many professional colleagues who are using the Libsys software. If any library wish to migrate from libsys to another LMS or ERP. This is really a very difficult task, because, libsys software does not support in exporting data into other common communication format (CCF) such Oracle or MySQL, etc. and libsys people does not cooperate at all. Those professionals who have migrated from libsys to another LMS or ERP can help in this case. They are requested to share their experience, how, by which ways and means they have fetched the data from libsys. Sharing licensed content should be dealt with care.it's not the same case when somebody emails the requested document to some person when a article/document request comes in LIS Forum/s.Sharing licensed content in an informal way will not cause much problems.But when it appears in a formal manner like that one envisioned by Dr.Badan,its a bit complicated. Sir, According to your opinion, every library which is offering DDS service on payment basis will fall under this copyright law, then what is the right of library which is subscribing the particular resource and paying a huge amount for it? There is no sense of making library networks if you do not have right to share your resource with the network libraries. Copy rights and resource sharing are always contradictory we will have to find a way between. Dr. Barman came with a brilliant idea and all the libraries at least try and assess the pros and cons of the idea then only we can make any conclusion.
