This seminar focuses on the transformative role of chatbots in modern libraries, emphasizing their ability to improve user engagement, streamline operations, and offer real-time assistance. Chatbots are no longer just tools for answering simple queries; they are becoming integral to managing complex tasks such as catalog searches, resource recommendations, and 24/7 user support. The seminar will explore the development of chatbots using two major platforms—Node.js and Python. It will compare their scalability, integration capabilities and efficiency in handling real-time queries within library management systems. The seminar will also present case studies from Indian and foreign libraries, demonstrating how chatbots are effectively deployed to manage high user traffic, enhance resource discovery, and provide personalized services. Concluding with a live demonstration of an inhouse library chatbot, the seminar will showcase how these tools can improve library services and operational efficiency. Dear Friends and Colleagues, There have been many discussions in this forum on the topic of Open Access (OA), particularly led by Arunachalam. As someone who has been an active participant in the OA movement and having pioneered the Vidyanidhi Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) back in 2000 — which helped catalyze later ETD and digital library efforts in India — it was an absolute delight and privilege to have an in-depth conversation with my dear friend, Jean-Claude Guédon, the maverick champion of OA, in the latest episode of InfoFire titled "Whither Open Access." Our chat was nostalgic as we reminisced about our time on the NDLTD Steering Committee from 2002 to 2012, while delving into the evolving landscape of academic publishing. We discussed the challenges posed by the commercialization of OA and explored whether the diamond model could offer a sustainable path forward, especially as more institutions rethink how research is disseminated. In libraries, the structured arrangement of knowledge through classification systems, metadata, and indexing plays a critical role in ensuring that users can find relevant resources quickly and accurately. However, with the exponential growth of digital content, traditional methods face significant challenges in information retrieval (IR), including scalability, context relevance, and precision. This seminar will explore the importance of knowledge organization in libraries, focusing on how well-structured systems underpin the entire library ecosystem. It will also delve into the growing challenges in modern IR, such as handling unstructured data, managing large datasets, and providing personalized search experiences. To address these issues, we will introduce the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) framework as an innovative solution. RAG combines the power of retrieval-based methods with generative models to enhance IR by delivering contextually rich, accurate, and relevant information. The seminar will discuss practical applications of RAG in library settings, highlighting how this framework can transform traditional knowledge organization and retrieval processes to meet the evolving demands of the digital age. *GLOBAL LIBRARY TRAINING PROGRAMME (GLTP)* The Global Library at O.P. Jindal Global University is offering a two-year training program for enthusiastic library and information science graduates. The program provides hands-on experience in information services in a university setting, and participants will be involved in various activities and projects across the functional units of the library. The selected candidates will receive a stipend of Rs. 30,000/- per month and get a medical and accidental insurance coverage according to the University policy. In addition, the candidates will get free accommodation (shared) in the vicinity of the University campus. Upon successful completion, skilled and top-performing candidates may be offered a full-time position at the Global Library. This is subject to the library's needs.
