Invitation to participate in the 2021 Library Automation Perceptions survey

The 2021 International Library Automation Perceptions survey conducted through Library Technology Guides is now underway. This survey, conducted annually since 2007, provides an important opportunity for libraries to register their perceptions of the strategic automation products they use, organizations that provide these products, and the quality of support delivered. The survey also probes at considerations for migrating to new systems and the level of interest in open source products. While the numeric rating scales support the statistical results of the study, the narrative comments provide even more interesting insight into the current state of library automation satisfaction. Comments will be published in the survey results, though redacted to conceal any text that might identify the individual or organization responding. Please help your fellow libraries who might be in the process of evaluating library automation options by responding to the survey. Any information regarding vendor performance and product quality can be helpful when making strategic decisions regarding automation alternatives. A large number of responses strengthen the impact of the survey and the subsequent report. This survey also provides constructive criticism to the vendors involved to help them address any prevailing issues or concerns. If you have responded in previous years, please respond again this year to help identify any trends regarding improvement or worsening of the products or support services. *Class 6 student sets up library at city police station* *This is the second library that the HPS student has set up**; the first one was at the MNJ Cancer Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic; she hopes to open at least five walk-in libraries* The Hindu Bureau, HYDERABAD, 19.02.23 She never asked for toys; her books were her toys. She read about 1,500 books in five or six years, says a proud Sateesh Kumar Jagadeesan, a private healthcare employee, of his 11-year-old daughter Akarshana. On Saturday, Akarshana, a class 6 student of Hyderabad Public School here, just opened her second library as part of her mission to set up at least five free walk-in libraries. The first one was at the MNJ Cancer Hospital, Lakdi-ka-pul, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The second one, surprisingly, was decided at Sanathnagar police station. “It was her idea. On December 23, we were in that area to buy a Christmas star. The place is usually busy and she thought people passing by would be interested in picking up a book. We soon walked into the police station and talked to the inspector, and within a week she wrote to Cyberabad police commissioner Stephen Raveendra for approval,” Mr. Sateesh Kumar explained. The collection of 829 books in the reception area in Sanathnagar police station include fiction, non-fiction, general knowledge and some 149 books in Telugu language. For Akarshana, who says the next stop in her library mission is the juvenile home for girls, the love of reading and helping people gives her satisfaction. Of about 4,800 books collected from several donors in the past two years, she still has some 2,800 books for library purpose. The sixth-grade student, for her initiatives and social enthusiasm, has earlier received appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, IT Minister K.T.
