*X**XXVII **Conference **(International) of the IATLIS, 25 – 27 November 2021* *On the theme** “L**IS Education and LI Services during and beyond the **COVID-19 Pan**demic**”* Jointly organised online by Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) and Department of Library and Information Science, University of Calcutta, Kolkata *About the IATLIS* The Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) is a professional association of more than 600 teachers and professionals in Library and Information Science in India. Since its inception in 1969, IATLIS has been active in taking up several issues of LIS Education in India especially relating to the development of curriculum, teaching methods, infrastructure, teacher training, etc. It actively works for the promotion of the professional interests of LIS teachers. As part of its activities, it conducts national seminars and webinars, workshops, and training programmes. It publishes conference proceedings and also an electronic journal “IATLIS Journal of Library Education and Research”. For more details about the association, kindly go to www.iatlis.org *About the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Calcutta (DLIS-CU)* Though the Committee was constituted in the year 1943, but the first Diploma in Librarianship Training started in January 1945. The Department is presently under the Faculty of Post-Graduate studies in Journalism, Education and Library & Information Science. At present, the Department runs a two-year Integrated Master’s Course as well as PhD program in library and information science. It publishes a peer-reviewed scholarly journal, named CUJIS (Calcutta University Journal of Information Studies). Barbara Lison: I have always been especially committed to library policy and library advocacy, marketing and governance issues. I know the impact of successful networking with partners from within and outside the library field. And supporting networking and political activities is a major task for library associations. Therefore I started my in involvement in these associations – both those bringing together institutions and library staff - quite early in my professional career. I did this step-by-step, from the regional to the national level, then I “jumped” into the European context with EBLIDA and also through the participation in EU funded projects. My first IFLA commitment was the support of the German national committee in its bid for WLIC 2003 in Berlin. I participated in that Congress as volunteer and as First-Timer and since then I was indeed “infected” by the IFLA spirit. My experience as Member of the Governing Board 2011-2013 and 2013-2015 showed me the opportunities and challenges IFLA has to support the Global Library Field. I was especially fascinated by the combination of professional work and advocacy activities which IFLA has taken on since the Presidency of Claudia Lux. My decision to run for President-elect and – hopefully – become IFLA-President was motivated by this challenge to lead this global organisation to show the world the relevance of libraries for the future of humanity. PLOS Pathogens to offer authors seamless data deposition to Dryad

Respected All, The Public Library of Science (PLOS) today announced that *PLOS Pathogens* is introducing a new technology solution that makes depositing data simpler and more accessible for our authors. As part of a one-year trial beginning October 5, 2021, *PLOS Pathogens *authors now have the option to upload their data files directly to Dryad Digital Repository <https://datadryad.org/stash/> (https://datadryad.org/stash/) during manuscript submission or revision—without even leaving our submission system.* PLOS Pathogens* is among the first journals in our field to offer this new service. Thanks to a grant from the Wellcome Trust <https://theplosblog.plos.org/2021/09/wellcome-trust-awards-plos-a-grant-to-…> (https://plos.io/3oAOeiu), datasets that are part of the trial will be hosted in perpetuity at no cost to authors. Researchers rely on access to scientific data to enhance their understanding of published research, for purposes of verification, replication and reanalysis, to guide future investigations, and to inform systematic reviews or meta-analyses. Depositing data in a repository (as opposed to offering it upon request or publishing as Supporting Information) further prevents data loss, improves discoverability, and removes barriers to replication and reuse. This new integrated solution means that it takes just minutes to upload a dataset and receive a unique, citable Dryad DOI. If a manuscript is accepted for publication, the associated dataset will undergo Dryad’s screening and curatorial process and become public on the site, with links to and from the published research article. “Dryad has long supported the PLOS Data Policy and author communities in publishing curated research data, and we are thrilled to continue working closer with PLOS,” said Daniella Lowenberg, Dryad Product Manager. “This integration and pilot with *PLOS Pathogens* will allow for researchers to more seamlessly ensure that they are complying with the policy, making data available for review, and publishing higher quality data in a long-term citable home.” Data repositories like Dryad offer important advantages <https://plos.org/open-science/open-data/#dryad>, including data preservation and tracking, facilitating reproducibility, demonstrating rigor, and attracting citations. This integration offers a simple, intuitive interface that makes depositing data with Dryad a part of our authors' normal submission workflow. The year-long trial will show whether a more streamlined process inspires authors to take advantage of the benefits of a data repository.
