Admission Notification for Post Graduate Diploma in Digital Library and Information Management (PGDLIM) 2020-21 Academic Year TISS Mumbai The hallmark of today’s knowledge society is its access to humongous amounts of constantly generated information and data. However, this information explosion has given way to another challenge, i.e. dealing with the problem of plenty. With too much information being made available, it has become impossible for today's researchers, scientists and students to effectively deal with new knowledge and its application for their studies and research. As we move ahead in the digital world, librarians have been playing a critical role of being the facilitators to access the digital learning resources. This unprecedented shift towards digital modes of education due to the Covid 19 pandemic has created the need for highly skilled and well trained information management professionals across various domains. TISS has launched this cutting edge programme to deal with this challenge. This 36 credits one year dual mode programme uses contact classes and extensive online learning platform Moodle. The course components are a combination of sound theory, extensive practicals and experiential. The core learning components comprises of Digital library and Information Archival software; DSpace, Greenstone, Content Management Software; Drupal, Joomla, WordPress, Reference Management Software; Zotero, Mendeley, EndNotes, Data mining and Data Visualisation tools like Tableau. Chatbot technology software like Program-O, Integrated library management software; Koha, E-Granthalaya, E Publishing software like Open Journal System. Harvesting software like Open Harvesting System. E-Book management software; Calibre. Web 2.0 tools application in libraries. Latest version of Ubuntu operating system. E- Resource management software; Coral. Google analytics, Cloud computing systems. Intellectual property rights and components like Creative Commons. E-Learning Management Software like Moodle. More and more organizations in India are embarking on new concepts in handling information. With the changing times, information formats also have changed rapidly from print on paper to digital. There is a need for qualified and trained Library and Information Science professionals to take the lead and guide developments in helping the end users in the changing environment.
