Scientific Information Resource Centre, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Colaba, Mumbai in collaboration with Bombay Science Librarians’ Association (BOSLA), Mumbai is organising a National Conference on "Future Librarianship: Innovation for Excellence" (NCFL- 2016) during *22-23 April, 2016. * The conference will have invited theme based addresses by experts, paper presentations by authors and panel discussions by eminent practitioners in LIS discipline. Sub-themes include but not limited to: Digital Libraries Harnessing Web Resources Library Technologies and Trends Library Resource Sharing, Networking and Consortia Copyright ad IPR Scientometrics and Webometrics Human Resource Management PAPER SUBMISSION: Original contributions based on practice/theory/research related to the theme are invited for presentation. All papers will go through a process of review and accepted papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings. Papers should not normally exceed 5,000 words or 16 double-spaced pages, including tables, diagrams, etc. Also, each paper should contain an abstract, upto ten keywords, body of the paper, conclusion and references. The paper should also contain the author's name, organisation and E-mail address. The format and the references of the paper should be as per the NCFL 2016 Paper Template which can be downloaded from Conference Website. Please note that only the accepted papers from authors who register for this conference will be included in the Conference Proceedings. Moving from subscription-based system to different models

Dear Members, Science Europe (www.scienceeurope.org) has just released the briefing paper “Open access business models and current trends in the open access publishing system”. (Available at: http://www.scienceeurope.org/uploads/PublicDocumentsAndSpeeches/SE_Briefing…) Apparently, the Science Europe Road map contains a clear objective “to move from subscription-based ‘reader-pays’ system to different models for research publications.” The briefing paper presents some of the recent trends and developments, as well as various business models currently in use which aim to facilitate the transition to OA. It also highlights expected benefits and underlines remaining challenges. The short 10 page paper discusses the following five points, benefits and challenges of each: 1. Adding open access requirements to subscription costs 2. Accelerating the transition through offsetting models 3. Capturing key data and need for transparency 4. The variety of business models in the evolving scholarly communication landscape 5. First ILA council meeting

Dear Colleagues, At the outset, i wish to thank all library professionals in the country for supporting my candidature for ILA President ship. As you are already aware, there is lot to be done still for our profession, despite of best efforts of all my predecessors.We are all thankful to them. However, all that i can assure you is that this newly formed council will do its best to address the problems being faced by the libraries and librarians in India. In the process, i need the support of all my professional friends and colleagues. I am glad to inform you that after taking over charge as the President of ILA on 1st April, 2016, the first council meeting has been fixed on 1st may 2016. The agenda of the meeting has been prepared after long discussions with my colleagues. Using FOSS to add "Ask the Librarian" chat support to your Koha OPAC

Dear all, At the recently concluded National Koha Conclave (Feb 17 - 18, 2016), one of the "Koha Wishlist" items discussed was that of adding a chat facility to Koha. Chris Cormack, the original developer of Koha had replied that the Free Software i.e. Mibew (pronounced as: My-beau) messenger may be used to add the chat capability to the OPAC. Last weekend, I decided to try out Mibew and implement this. I'm happy to report that it has worked out very nicely. I've blogged about how you can add it on your server here - http://blog.l2c2.co.in/index.php/2016/04/11/mibew/. Sharing this so that more people may find the information useful.
