Why name is "Central Library"

Dear All, Perhaps i am asking very silly question but this question came in my mind so i would like to know some explanations on below: 1. Why we name any Institute/University main Library as central Library? and what is the meaning of Central Library? 2. If the name of Central library has been given name in honor of any person than why "Central" world is included like Mahatma Gandhi Central Library, Biju Patnaik Central Library etc. my view is why it is not only Mahatma Gandhi Library or Biju Patnaik Library? Please explain to me the differences between above? The main objective of the University is to promote advancement of knowledge by providing instruction and research facilities in key areas of science, technology and other allied disciplines. At present, there are 09 functioning schools namely: School for Information Science and Technology, Bioscience and Biotechnology, Legal Studies, Ambedkar Studies, Environmental Sciences, Home Science, Physical Science, Management Studies etc. comprising of 24 Departments in addition to Department of Hindi, Department of Education, and University Institute of Engineering and Technology. The School for Information Science and Technology includes four departments, i.e. Department of Library & Information Science, Computer Science, Information Technology and Mass Communication and Journalism. *ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT* The Department of Library and Information Science is functioning in the university since 1997 with the aim to provide up-to-date LIS education to students through effective teaching programmes and practical training. The department is working with the vision to educate individuals for career as librarians, documentalists, information professionals, archivists, information scientists and knowledge managers. The students are educated and trained in the emerging library and information science developments as required by the existing and emerging market requirements.
