INDIAN STATISTICAL INSTITUTE Documentation Research & Training Centre (DRTC) 8th Mile, Mysore Road, RVCE Post Bangalore, 560 059 SEMINAR-7 Landscape Study of Research Data Repositories Abstract Research data are important and universal to infer new ideas and knowledge. The growth of the data is not parallel to the reuse of data. The permanent access and long-term preservation of research data is a challenge for all researchers or stakeholders in the scientific community. To facilitate research data we need to build a platform called data repository, a hub to store datasets in various domains. These days many organizations like universities, research centers are building their own repository for providing access to research data in a trustworthy environment. In this seminar we shall discuss the scenario of research data, how research data repositories promote a culture of sharing, increased access and better visibility of research data. We shall briefly discuss some of the repository registries (e.g., re3data.org) and the repositories (e.g., DRIED, ICAR Research Data Repository for Knowledge Management). In this seminar, we shall also discuss the repository software tools like Dataverse and CKAN. We shall conclude this seminar with some issues and major challenges of creating and managing the data repositories. Respected All An MIT task force is releasing a preliminary report featuring a set of proposals aimed at steering MIT’s library system toward becoming an “open global platform” enabling the “discovery, use, and stewardship of information and knowledge” for future generations. Dear All, Greeting. Of recent, there has been an explosion of FREE to access and PAY to publish business models in the STM domain. I have been observing a growing set of new metrics that are being put in place by the new business model publishers. Most importantly, various websites are publishing details of predator publishers and some names are quite common to all of us. Sir, This has reference to your mail Lis-Forum dt.21st Oct.2016 on Study of predatory journals. Please my following opinions on this topic. with regards,D.V.Patwardhan "Predatory journals have emerged in OA environment. The authors have to pay for publishing their papers. As the publishers get payment to publish papers and wish lure authors to choose their medium, many times stringent quality restrictions not imposed on authors' output. If predatory journals publish quality articles then it is great contribution for scholarly or else they simply create pollution in scientific world."
